I just had to write a quick blog about this news item that flashed by me in my Google Reader last week.
I have a drawer full of old cassette tapes from when I was a kid. My brother and I would record ridiculous things, we’d go buy lame albums and singles, soundtracks, whatever. We had tape recorders.
It was awesome and it seemed like the cutting edge.
Yeah right. Now we have digital cameras that will play back your pictures via slideshow on your HDTV along with a soundtrack that you can download from the internet directly to your camera! OMG!
It’s just amazing how slowly time seems to pass and yet things change so quickly.
I remember of course when VHS was going to be replaced by DVDs and we weren’t sure if it would ever really happen. Well it has.
And then people started talking about High Definition and how that would one day replace all regular, analog TV’s in the world.
I never thought it would come so fast either. From what I just looked up, only 30% of U.S. homes have HDTVs.
Yet Best Buy has already decided that no one needs the old kind anymore. The company just announced that they have pulled ALL analog TVs off their shelves, the first big time retailer to do such a thing.
I guess it was just a matter of time. Heck, I though my original Xbox was cool, now it’s in a bag waiting for me to put it on Ebay, while my new 360 sits and collects dust.
Other things to follow analog TV’s?
Standard DVD players? Gas-powered cars? My clothes? (except this shirt – it will never go out of style)
My cousins and I would records all sorts of silly stuff on tape recorders. Radio sketches, mock interviews, storytelling. To be honest, I wouldn’t mind it if my only daily concern now was to spend hours recording ridiculous radio sketches
Its a sad day, but my new 52 inch plasma comforted me.
Probably DVDs are the next to go and between HD DVDs and blu ray I think Blue ray will be victorious since a lot of people are buying Play Station 3s due to the fact that they have built in Blu ray so over time if this console dominates the game market at some point Blu ray will be everywhere.
Blu-Ray will win huh? Good call man.
So awesome…and so familiar.
We’d record us making Star Trek episodes, with sound effects from other tape players, like phasers, etc
Good stuff!
