I don’t know how many of you watch Scrubs, but it’s one of my favorites. I don’t talk about it as much, what with The Office, 30 Rock and so many others out there, but likely that’s because it always comes on later than other shows.
The best thing about this season for Scrubs is that it’s their last. Now, I don’t mean that because I want it to end, but it’s the fact that they KNOW it’s the last, so we will likely be in store for some of their best writing and stories to date.
Some articles have popped up talking about what we can expect and all of it sounds perfect.
Anyone who enjoyed the Musical episode last year (and it was spectacular), will get a kick out of this season’s big number that USAToday talks about:
“In place of a musical, this season’s extravaganza, directed by Braff, will pay homage to The Princess Bride, centering on a bedtime story Dr. Cox tells his daughter. That means wild costumes for cast members who will play such characters as the village idiot (Braff), a giant (Flynn), a princess (Chalke) and a knight (McGinley).”
Holy crap I can’t wait.
Also the janitor is supposed to get a name and a girlfriend, since Niel Flynn asked for that if it reached a seventh season.
Laverne, who was killed off last year, will actually be back. The funny story there is that since they thought last season might be their final one, they wanted a big emotional event to happen, and they chose to have Laverne die.
But they never wanted to get rid of her, so she’s back, this time as a totally different nurse, but one who looks A LOT like Laverne of course. The big twist is that only J.D. thinks she looks like her.
Classic.
I’ve already seen a preview for tonight’s opener and the scene with Zach Braff is helping a woman give birth and out pops a guy from Men at Work (I think) who sings “I come from a land down under…”
Hahahahaha!
I love this show. They plan to take it down a notch on the crazy comedy this season and get back to their roots…those funny, yet touching scenes that really connected with the viewers. I think that’s the right way to go.
Plenty of answers and loose ends will be tied up over the course of a season, but the article in USAToday says that it wont be a “Ross and Rachel” finish where you are waiting until the final episode to see if J.D. and Elliot get together.
Creator Bill Lawrence had this to say on that stuff:
“We’re going to resolve those things during the year rather than build up to some overwrought, emotional finale. This is a comedy. All people want is a chance to say goodbye and that we tie up loose ends,” Lawrence says, then jokes: “Then we’re going to cut to black really quick and play a Journey song.”
I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ve really loved this show and it probably wont hit me until it’s gone how much I’ll miss it.
To a great final season!
Looking forward to watching it again, starting tonight! Welcome back, JD and the gang!
Wow, the lack of love for Scrubs is so disheartening…
Watched last night and it was a really good episode to kick of their final season. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.
A funny, but true story. Davina and I did not begin watching Scrubs until January of this year (so half-way through season 6). We loved it so much because every show was so fraking (yes, I’m using your word…) hilarious that it was like comedy crack. So, to fill time between Season 6 and last nights episode, we ended up purchasing Seasons 1-5 on dvd and watching them all. We still need to pick up Season 6 and watch the ones we missed – but what a great show and I’m going miss it when it is finally over.
Scrubs is definitely a guilty pleasure. I think the reason it is so much fun is that they have no rules and do whatever crazy thing they want. You never know where one of J.D.’s crazy daydreams is going to take them.
I hope we find out that the Janior’s name really is Jan Itor (as they showed in the one episode where he was at a children’s school for career day and he introduces himself that way on the chalkboard.)
Mike – your favorite episode, the one with Brandon Fraser, is my favorite as well. It’s called “My Screwup”. The musical show was pretty funny too.
[...] definite now. If you want to read more about what we were supposed to get in the finale, check out this older blog post.submit_url = [...]
Wait when does the princess bride episode premiere?
Emily, I think in two weeks from tonight…that episode is #9 and supposedly they had new episodes back last Thursday, although I don’t remember seeing anything.
Hmmm, I’ll look into it.
Emily, it looks like Scrubs was supposed to be back last week on the 24th, but never aired and I don’t show it on tonight either.
So who knows…all I know is that when it DOES come back on, it’s the third new episode that is the Princess Bride tribute.
ich bin von deutschland:) bei uns läuft Scrubs seid 2004 und es ist echt die beste sendung die es gibt=) Zach Braff (J.D) ist echt hammer =)
I love hearing people say “frak”
Now I need to get the Cap’n to say Frak and not Frack
Anyways, I totally agree on Scrubs…and what a great show to discover and get to watch from the start up until now.
Any favorites? I know one of mine (that I can remember) was with Brenden Frasier and how he’s kind of not alive during the episode and you find out at the end…was amazing.
Jan Itor would be hilarious
My Screwup…truly one of the best. And the musical. I hope the Princess Bride one turns out great.
