If you are dying to see I Am Legend when it comes out on December 14th, you might think about seeing it in an IMAX theatre.
Now I can’t remember the last time I saw a movie on an IMAX screen, but I think it was some kind of space exploration documentary about 20 bazillion years ago. I really have no clue what it’s like to watch a real feature film at the IMAX.
But I might just try to find out.
If you don’t know, The Dark Knight is the sequel to Batman Begins and is scheduled for a July 18th, 2008 release. Christian Bale is back to fight The Joker, played by Heath Ledger. You can watch the teaser for the movie on Rotten Tomatoes.
Now I thought Batman Begins was one of the best superhero movies ever, and might have been better than even the original Batman with Michael Keaton.
So obviously I am highly anticipating the sequel. And now, we can get a look at it seven months before it comes out at your local cinema.
According to many websites, the first 6-7 minutes of The Dark Knight will be shown at the beginning of showings of I Am Legend only on IMAX screens.
That should make the I Am Legend viewing that much sweeter.
On a side note, here are some Dark Knight tidbits:
– Batman will go to Hongkong [sic] for some kind of “gangster hunting”, but the producer Chuck Roven won’t tell us why Batman travels to Hongkong.
– “The whole thing is not ‘Joker Begins’, because we did not tell how the Joker became what he is”, says director Christopher Nolan. “During these five minutes it is shown how the joker of the small crook becomes the most-dreaded gangster of the city – it is more of a “The Rise of the Joker”
– Batman’s new mask will have white lenses on the eyes when he turn on the Bat-sonar detection.
Sounds good to me…can’t wait!
Awesome Link…. I’m realy looking forward to the Dark Knight!!!! Too bad Christian Bale declined to play Batman in the Justice League film (as did Brandon Routh for Superman)… silly actors….
The only theatrical release I saw in IMAX was the second Matrix movie…. all I gotta say is, its a whole new experience…..its really really awesome…
Mike, I don’t know where you are in PHX, but there are several IMAX screens that aren’t “IMAX” screens here in town. TheWife and I saw “Batman Begins” on the IMAX screen at the Deer Valley AMC, for example.
Sorry to see you’ve backed off the ID beta again. I’m suffering with it a *lot* right now (I’m acting as Jon Fox’s import-testing beyatch and suffering for it) but they’ve gone to a wide-release beta today.
Batman Begins was awesome. Can’t wait for the Dark Knight. Watching in IMAX would be sweet. Btw, RT also has some early pix of the Joker.
Hmm. Maybe none of the other screens in town have been converted. Then again, wikipedia is certainly not definitive. The Deer Valley theater is pretty nice, but for your location it’d definitely be the Tempe IMAX.
I wish I actually had any interest in I Am Legend. I just can’t see myself going just for the Batman preview. More likely, I’ll rent Omega Man opening weekend and marvel over Heston’s overacting.
[...] The Today Show’s Al Roker did a behind the scenes interview this past week with a few of the top actors from the new Batman movie, dubbed The Dark Knight. [...]
Wow, I didn’t realize a place like AMC would have an IMAX screen…that is indeed news. We live in the Southeast corner of Phoenix (Cooper and Riggs area) so if you have any ideas where one is close to us, let me know.
I know Arizona Mill mall has an IMAX, but that’s just a standalone IMAX.
As far as ID…yeah, it was just too much trouble and I think we’ll check back in someday when it’s in full wide release and I see a lot of people using it. I know it will be pretty cool, I like the idea of a social commentor network…but atm, it’s just not necessary for me.
Good luck with your testing!
