I’m so glad it’s Friday and that the weekend is almost here. It also means that a week from today Jina and I leave for Texas for Thanksgiving and I cannot wait. It’s been so warm in Phoenix lately, but in Jefferson, TX, it was almost freezing the other night. Sounds wonderful!
So with the posts about Jango this week, I’ve been on a music kick all week, trying to find new bands and enjoying listening to new stuff. I know the bands I like, but not the stuff you all like. So the Friday question is:
“What is your favorite band or bands?”
For myself, I like plenty of bands, like the Shins, the Killers, Coldplay, Gomez, Tegan and Sara and who knows what else is on my iPod. But my favorite of course is Snow Patrol and I really think they will be for a long time.
My dad found the Moody Blues when he was younger and they are still his group today. Granted, they’ve actually still been playing in concerts these many years and who knows if Snow Patrol will last a long time.
But regardless, music and bands are amazing things. Why are we attracted to certain kinds of music and why does some of it affect us emotionally more than others? It’s one of those things in life I find fascinating.
So what about you? What’s your favorite band or bands if you can’t narrow it down (and I notice most of you hate to give one answer answers)?
Favorite all time: Five Iron Frenzy (I never grew out of the ska kick of the late 90′s, and these guys were my favorite.) However, they saw the light and realized ska was dead and broke up. Ah well. At least I’ll always have the CD’s and mp3′s.
Matt, that is soooo crazy that you listen to FIF. Nicky and I were HUGE Five Iron Frenzy fans. Kingdom…. of the Dinosaurs!
I have way too many bands to choose from… let me think about this.
I gotta go with Sweet Water. An alternative group that was big on the Seattle scene in the 90′s. Since my music listening is usually all over the map, I need to throw in 2-Pac as my favorite rapper and Earth, Wind and Fire for R&B as well.
Anyone who knows me know I’ll listen to just about anything. There’s really just 2 kinds of music I don’t like; one’s Country, and the other’s…wait for it..Western.
Just about anything else goes. I usually lean to slightly harder, edgier stuff, but I’ll listen to everything from Linkin Park to Black eyed Peas to Eminem to Snow Patrol.
4 words…
Scrantonicity’s cover of Roxanne!
List out at least one song (if you were to recomend one song) from these bands as well, so i can try them out!!
Sweet Water – Crawl or Everything will be alright

is scrantonicity on iTunes?
Om my gosh Matt, we have so many Five Iron memories to share with you!
I am a music junkie so it is hard to choose but… my favorite bands are:
The Killers (I can’t wait for the B-sides album next week!) check out their songs Bones, Shadowplay or This River is Wild.
David Crowder Band, check out A Beautiful Collison or Remedy (too many to mention really).
No Doubt (they’re reuniting next year, woo hoo!) my fave songs of theirs is Sunday Morning.
Other bands I love are 311, Jimmy Eat World, Bloc Party, Mute Math, Duran Duran, White Stripes, and Cake.
Let’s not even get into individual music artists because then I could go on and on and on.
Mike, you just read today about No Doubt being inspired by Ska? Their first 2 albums were ska. Maybe home schooling affected this
Ska, wow…
I used to like a little of that, my favorite was the Mighty Mighty Boss Tones
Snow Patrol:
Chocolate
Chasing Cars
Shut your Eyes
You’re all I have
Five Iron Frenzy:
Oh, Canada
All That is Good
Beautiful America
Ugly Day
Every New Day
On Distant Shores
I just read today that No Doubt was inspired by Ska, which is sometime I may or may not have knew before
I do like No Doubt though.
Like I said, I may or may not have heard that before, I just forgot
It does sound familiar though…
