The Office writers are out on strike, including B.J. Novak, Mindy Kaling and Paul Liberstein. They were videotaped and interviewed yesterday and their comments are pretty interesting and kind of funny.
The writers were asked to write those web-isodes last year, the ones with the big accounting mystery over the summer. The writers actually won an Emmy for it, but they never received compensation. Yet the shows still run on NBC.com, with advertising, but they don’t see a dime.
They said that there have been something like seven million downloads of full Office episodes on iTunes, but they get nothing for it. At all.
It’s really hard not to side with the writers in this.
