Even with The Office and 30 Rock on Thursdays, that night just doesn’t stack up to the awesome that is Monday. The problem that really comes into play is that this WGA Strike is just going to kill things for awhile and I’ll be stuck watching American Idol for my entertainment.
Tonight was the finale of Prison Break for 62 days, 9 hours and 14 minutes (according to FOX.com). So that will be gone. Heroes ends on December 3rd and I have no idea about Journeyman. Although I DO know there is another new episode next Monday, so that’s good.
So much to talk about…so let’s get right into it.
First off, if I’ve said it once, I’ve said it twice: Journeyman is just a flat-out great show. It’s a basket of goodies all for me. Popcorn fun. Total entertainment and clever plot twists and writing. Action, danger, excitement and emotion.
Okay then, now that I’ve gushed over this show, let’s talk about Monday’s episode.
This show COULD have been turned into a procedural like Chuck has become: Dan is working, finds himself back in the past, he helps someone over time and fixes it all in the end. Granted, the time travel stuff does tend to seem like the same at times, but there is just so much more going on.
The stolen money that he is now under investigation about was part of a “journey” of his that creates problems in the present day. That’s what I like about it. Sometimes things in the past will catch up to him in the future. It’s not just a cut and dry show.
This week, the plot thickens. Suddenly he’s working a lot more with Olivia. She’s everywhere he is. Why? At the end of the episode, in a very emotional scene, Dan tells Katie that Olivia says the trips will get longer, the time they spend together longer. Yikes. Why?
And then the big huge bomb: “Livia” is actually from the 1940′s and that is her home time period! She somehow was brought to the 80′s and ended up sticking around for awhile, went to law school and fell in love with Dan Vasser. But then just before they get married, she is yanked back and then starts traveling again.
Now Dan is doing it too. How are they related? Beats the heck out of me…but one thing is certain: The Tacheon Man knows what is going on. In a pretty not-so-subtle warning, TM tells Dan to not mention his “book” to the authorities. Obviously he knows what’s happening judging by his unsurprised look when Dan disappeared behind him.
This show is amazing at interweaving plot points from past episodes as well. So Dan hands a taxi driver a $20 and it gets turned in as counterfeit to the police a few episodes ago. However long later, it’s in evidence and now Jack has stolen it to cover for Dan. At least, I think that’s what he used to pay for his beers at the end of the show.
Does Jack know what’s going on? Is he starting to piece things together? Dan told him earlier in the episode that “I told you before, but you didn’t listen” when Jack asked what was going on for the millionth time. Did Jack finally take that to heart? The money from 1975 and now the $20 bill? Click, click, click go the pieces…falling into place.
Remember that Dan did tell him in the first episode that he traveled through time. I would love it if Jack was finally in on what’s going on, but I don’t see it happening for awhile.
Finally, I just KNOW this show is going to get canceled once they run out of new episodes and we’ll never know what happened. I just pray that somehow, somewhat, it gets saved.
Heroes
I could talk about Journeyman all day, but Heroes was great last night as well. And no cheerleader, no Suresh, no Parkman or Horn-Rimmed Glasses. Just the good people. And by that, I mostly mean Peter Petrelli.
There is something about that character that intrigues me. I wish in some upcoming episode that the guy would actually use his powers in a magnificent way. He has so many of them, yet we never see him in action. If you think about what he can do, there is really no one else who can stop him.
Except the Haitian. Which we found out about. That’s how he came to be in a crate…with no memory. The Haitian is a good guy, trapped working for the enemy.
What did you think of Kristen Bell and her sick lightning fetish she had going on? I think it was a bit over the top, but she’s pretty brutal with that stuff.
So we had a lot of questions answered:
What happened after the explosion? Pretty cool how Peter immediately flew down to catch Nathan right after he went supernova.
How did Nathan’s scars heal? Adam/Kensei has some pretty powerful blood and used it to heal Nathan.
(on a side note, do Adam and Claire share the same power? If so, will Claire suddenly stop growing once she’s reached Adam’s age? He seems to have aged PRETTY good for being over 400 years old)
Where did the Hispanic siblings come from? I actually never asked that question and really don’t care, but they seem to think we need to. I guess it’s because Sylar will eventually have that power and perhaps it has something to do with the virus? I don’t know, but he HAS to come into play later.
(A wild guess: Peter absorbs the brother’s power, and stops Sylar from killing a ton of people)
Who is Elle and why was she after Peter? Obviously, she’s a little psychopath and is being used to hunt down Peter because he’s the only one who can stop The Company from doing whatever it is they do. It was her job to recapture him, but she was foiled by the Haitian. So now she needs to find him again.
Also, does Peter now have the ability to shoot lightning or did he already? I forget what he has really.
There were more answers, but nothing huge. We know that Nicky now has Gina as a sidekick and that’s how her hubby died.
Did you like the episode? It really feels like the pace is picking up.
Prison Break
Man I’ve rambled on good and just now got to Prison Break.
Once again, I felt a bit let down at the end. I was hoping Whistler would escape and that would leave Michael and Lincoln the rest of the season to hunt them down and inflict some major pain towards whoever helped kill Sara.
After everything that happened, nothing REALLY happened except Michael being led out the door at the end. Why? Are they really moving him or is he getting help from somewhere?
I have to say, this show always bothers me in the sense that I can’t stop watching and it’s always exciting, yet it never seems to do much.
And this is the finale that will leave us wondering until January?
I just felt it could have been better.
What did you guys think of these episodes?

Journeyman, Heroes and Prison Break…
I just love Monday nights.
Even with The Office and 30 Rock on Thursdays, that night just doesn’t stack up to the awesome that is Monday. The problem that really comes into play is that this WGA Strike is just going to kill things for awhile and I…
Absolutely love Mon TV.
Journeyman just keeps getting better. Please NBC, for once do the right thing and keep this show on.
Heroes was mostly good…I guess. My big question? WHY COULDN’T WE HAVE SEEN THIS EPISODE FIRST! For the love of all things TV, they wait until I’m ready to bail on the show because it’s gotten so bad it’s barely watchable and then they unveil this episode? Ugh! It was good in that it answered most of the questions we had about the start of the season, but the show needs to seriously keep it coming. I want to see action, ‘Hero’ powers, less soapy drama, and more action. Let’s go Heroes!
A little bummed about the ‘Fall Finale’ of Prison Break, but at least Michael got out. I liked that Lincoln finally started to kick a litte ass. The show also needs more action and cliffhanger drama, but I still love it.
Of course in a few weeks all we’ll have on Mondays will be football and dancing so I guess we’d better enjoy it while it last. ;-(
I’m really starting to get into Journeyman as well. I pretty much agree with everything you said. I did find myself wishing that he would just tell his brother what was going on but I’m guessing there’s more to the story there.
Like you, I’m certain it will be canceled although I find it a shame. It’s much better than many other shows on TV right now.
I gave up on Prison Break after last season. I just couldn’t take the circular nature of the show…I knew they would eventually have to end up in jail again and again and again…I just don’t know where they will go with it. But, I know a lot of people still like it so more power to ‘em.
I haven’t seen Heroes yet. I’ll watch it on one of my lunch breaks this week.
JOURNEYMAN ROCKED!!! I couldnt stop thinking about it all day. Noone at my work watches this show, I’m trying to get someone hooked, but would be tough to start it at this point perhaps. This show is simply awesome. I think it would be really cool if they stopped showing new shows and picked it back up in say, April….oh wait BSG is already doing that, nevermind.
What a twist with finding out Livia is from 1948!! and they are merely “correspondents in time”. The whole twist with Jack covering for Dan and spending the $20…, Tachyon man knowing whats going on and somehow pulling all the strings, how and why was Dan selected?!?!?! Now the FBI is involed and will be tracking both Dan and Jack probably…MAN THIS SHOW IS REALLY GOOD!!!
Heroes, just like last season, slooooooooow start, almost to the unintersting ppoint, then hits a pivital mark and picked up. Yes, I still dont care about Nicky or the Latin WonderTwin powers, but I guess you cant have everything.
[...] is another reason why Heroes is bothersome this season. Granted it’s getting a lot better, but the things they try to do on the side just irks [...]
