The worst thing that could happen to this 2007 fall season, besides the WGA strike, would be if one of the best new shows out there gets axed and causes those fans huge amounts of anguish in getting over it.
It’s about that time for Journeyman to follow the way of Sports Night and Firefly. Quality shows that got axed because of poor ratings, even though they each had huge followings and were critically acclaimed. The ratings just weren’t good enough.
Real Honest Film clued me in on this story. According to Zap2it, NBC has given Journeyman two weeks to get their ratings up. Ugh.
What’s sad is that according to Zap2it, NBC is ignoring the amount of viewers they have who watch the show on DVR after the live episode has shown and also those who view it online. They are “only interested in live Nielsens.”
The staff on the show are still holding out hope that their fanbase can save them.
The show staff is hoping for the best, according to our source. “I feel like we take the fan community very seriously. [For example], when Langley appeared on the show, he got a huge response as someone who could give answers, not more questions. We went back and added more of him. We’ve been loyal to our fanbase.”
These are the type of shows I live for and I am getting so tired of networks yanking them after the public gets sucked in.
It may have been different back in the day when mythology and overall plot-driven shows weren’t so numerous, but in these days of Lost and Heroes, these kind of shows are all over the place and they involve us so much more than before.
With Firefly, we had the deeper River plot that we wanted to know about and discover, and it took a MOVIE to give us answers. Daybreak, while it wasn’t as good as Journeyman at all, was another one that left us hanging when it got axed. I still have no idea why the guy was repeating the same day over and over.
The article on Zap2It was published last Monday, so that basically means we have one more episode left for the ratings to improve.
Let’s all watch it Live on Monday and hope for the best!
If that’s true it really sucks because I’ve gotten to where I really like Journeyman. I’ve agreed with you the whole time, though, that the show would probably end up getting canceled. Without a full season to air and no established fan base…there’s really no way the network is going to give it the chance it deserves.
It would be a real tragedy if it does get canceled. The guy who plays Dan Vasser was really popular on Rome and he does a great job here. You love the show because of him and his acting, plus the great writing and stories.
It’s such good science fiction, as Michael Wentz wrong at Real Honest Film…I just pray somehow it gets saved.
I don’t get NBC at all. It’s not like they’ve got another show waiting to take the slot. They’ll probably give us more reality crap. Not sure what the problem is with this Mon timeslot, but it seems to be cursed. First Studio 60, then The Black Donelley’s and now Journeyman.
Makes me want to turn off the TV and read more books. UGH!
Studio 60 sucked though
Actually, it was okay, but it started feeling a bit preachy to me and too much like the West Wing at times.
If NBC yanks this at least we know what it stands for… Nothing But Crap….cause thats all that will be left on their channel if they take this off…

Dam!!! I’ve been waiting for the next Daybreak… I watched it on Sky (UK) and now Journeyman will probably die, thanks NBC the No Balls Corporation.

Did Daybreak have an ending and an explanation? I never got to see it.
