People are going to start thinking I’m weird not writing about TV as much as usual, but there is just a ton of movie news coming out all over the place. It’s been hard to keep up with it all, but I’m trying!
So the X-Files are close to my heart. I used to watch them with a buddy in college and we were obsessed with the mythology of the story. While there were others, you could almost give credit to the X-Files (and Twin Peaks) for the mythology-laced TV shows we have today, like Lost, Heroes, Life and a host of others. If you don’t know what “mythology” means, it’s basically the style of doing shows that have an overall, underlying plot, instead of a week-to-week show, like CSI, Law and Order, etc.
Fox Mulder and Dana Scully were my heroes. Smart, intelligent FBI agents, I longed to wear a long trench-coat and solve mysteries when I grew up.
When the movie came out, it was on the day I got married, June 19th, 1998. And if you know me, you know I saw it that day. I had to wait until late afternoon anyways for the wedding, I couldn’t see Jina and I had nothing else to do. My groomsmen all joined me as well that morning to watch it, even though I knew most couldn’t care less for the X-Files.
It was awesome. I loved it and wished they’d make another one. Over the years, it felt like it would never happen. I honestly believed it was the end.
But a week ago there was confirmation on a start date for filming from David Ducovney. It actually begins shooting next month in Vancouver, where the original series was filmed. Everyone is back: Ducovney, Gillian Anderson and Cris Carter (the creator).
The plot is under wraps, but we have this:
Studio is keeping the film’s logline under wraps, but stressed the pic is a stand-alone story and supernatural thriller that takes the complicated relationship between Mulder and Scully in new directions.
They have been big on doing a movie that is unrelated to the “mythology” of the X-Files, which is the alien invasion plot. It’s a lot deeper than that, but that’s the basics. So this plot seems to line up with what I’ve heard.
The release date is set for July 25th, 2008, so we don’t even have a ton of time to wait for it.
I can’t wait…add this to the top of my most anticipated movies in 2008 list!
Hmmmm…. where’d it go (the post)? I had typed in a bit about Going to go get in line now for the x-files movie….. Hmmm. its not even Monday….
I dunno, maybe its a x-file?
I was an X-files geek too. I dunno about them making another movie after so much time has passed… but if Chris Carter is on board, I have hope. I saw the first movie in the theater, and will probably be standing in line for this one too.
