Huge news coming out of The Hobbit camp today. Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema have finally put aside differences, which will allow Jackson to come on as executive producer of the prequel to Lord of the Rings.
This is a long time coming, and frankly, about damn time. With the way Jackson handled the vision of Tolkien in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the world he created, there is no way anyone should do these new films without him. The downside is that he wont be directing them, but word is that “he’s just too busy” to take that on and get the films done in time for their proposed release dates.
From AZCentral.com:
“I’m very pleased that we’ve been able to put our differences behind us, so that we may begin a new chapter with our old friends at New Line,” Jackson said in a statement. “We are delighted to continue our journey through Middle Earth.
I am delighted too, Mr. Jackson.
There will be two films penned from The Hobbit text, resulting in a production start in 2009, with releases in 2010 and 2011.
Not only do we get The Hobbit in movie form finally, we’ll get two of them.
If you don’t know by now, I’m a huge Lord of the Rings fan. I read the books for the first time in high school and have since read them through at least 10-15 more times. When I first heard of the movies being made by Jackson, I was being thrilled. It took a long time though to see them ever happen, but it was such a blast to follow production from New Zealand via sites like TheOneRing.net.
There is already some speculation coming out about the Hobbit movie over there, so I’ll keep you guys posted on it. There is already discussion about how the two movies will be connected and what will be included in them.
It’s still so far off if you think about 2009 just for production to start, but I think the journey will be rewarding once more.
I’m so excited, I plan to begin camping out at my local Harkins for tickets starting this weekend. (sarcasm intended)
Seriously, I know for fans of the genre this is big news, I just haven’t had my second cup of coffee yet.
Scott’s last blog post..Don’t let the holidays color you blue
Not fans of the “genre”, fans of Tolkien…
Anyways, I hope you had a few cups
