IT would have been so much better if He had made it out of the woods to tell the story himself.

I believe this book was very poorly written it jumps from subject to subject without a smooth transition way to much. I believe it would have been better if it had just told his journey in one smooth line. With this it tells you that Chris died on the cover. Also it talks about him being dropped off in the bush country and then it goes back to how he got there. Honestly it makes for a very annoying read. Also in the middle of the book it starts talking about similar stories. What would have been better is if he had made a series of different people that had the same difficulties. Then he starts talking about himself. Honestly you can leave that in the epilogue as an optional thing to read. This book is not worth the money or time! I highly discourage reading this book.

I recently read this book for my English class and I watched the movie too. Alex Supertramp has a very unique story and I love hearing about him. He has inspired me in a way to live my life the way I want to. The story of this man is amazing, but in this book you get more than you asked for. The author is very opinionated about Chris and he basically calls him an ignorant idiot for the mistakes he made. Honestly, why would you write a book about someone and then call them stupid? I don't get it. The author spends way too much time talking about other people that had similar stories to Chris. I don't want to hear about them. I really don't. The author also had the nerve to use up two chapters of the book talking about himself. Seriously? You can write a different book to talk about yourself. I want to read about Chris. The movie is very good though. I would definitely recommend it.

I have to agree that the book was very well written, as all of John's books are. As a wilderness survival trainer, I was appalled at the lack of preparedness of McCandless. I truly do understand the zeal, drive and desire behind his ill-fated adventure, however I was appalled that he would undertake the task in the manner that he did. Many would see McCandless as heroic, I see him as suicidal.

Yeah, I am hoping to see that movie soon, not sure if it's still in theaters or not, might have to wait for the DVD.

Glad you liked it Kory, it was definitely a great little book.

I just finished this book a few weeks ago as well. Truly a great read! I got interested in the book after reading Krakauer's initial article, which re-ran in Outside Magazine this past summer. I also read about Sean Penn's involvement with the family with regards to making the film. Now that I have read the book, it is time to see the movie!
