I just found out about this awesome musical talent contest this week and thought I’d pass it on to you guys. Doritos.com is presenting the “Crash the Super Bowl” contest, which will end up with one new artist having a 60-second music video played DURING the Super Bowl and they’ll also get an Interscope Record contract.
Voting ends on the 31st of December, so it’s only a few days away.
I always like finding new artists and two of them in this contest are just amazing.
The first is Kina, who runs a blog about the contest that you can visit and see a bunch of her songs on video via YouTube. She has a great, fresh sound, something like a cross between Norah Jones and Corine Bailey Rae? Not even sure if that’s a great comparison, but her music and lyrics and vocals are awesome.
You can view her main song, Message from your Heart on her contest page and find out more on how to vote for her.
This is all being done on MySpace.com, meaning you need an account to vote, so if you do, visit this page for Kina and check out her and the other artists up for the contest.
She has been gaining popularity recently with her totally original song, Gotta Digg, which is all about Digg.com and the people who use it. The song has almost 6,000 diggs and 400 comments, which is amazing. It’s a nice job by her and some backup vocals from her sisters.
You can see that video below (and read the lyrics here if you want):

Here is another one of her songs, called Ours to Keep, which is apparently the love theme for a popular couple on General Hospital.

The other artist I really like in this contest is Landon Austin. No idea who to compare him to, but he’s a got a great voice and this little tune below called Waiting is catchy:

You can follow his entire journey in this contest on his blog, LandonAustin.com. He puts out a new video everyday and adds some comedy to them and a mockumentary about his life as well.
Here is the link to his MySpace profile for the contest.
I really hope one of these two wins the contest, it will be great to see them during the Super Bowl.
Ok – her first song was not that great. Actually I disliked it so much that I almost did not listen to her second song you posted. The second song was by far much better – very, very impressive.
Landon reminds me a little bit of Howie Day and a little bit of myself. It looks like he is self-taught on guitar as well by the way he plays some of his chords – I know because most self-taught guitarists play certain chords in a particular way that tends to drive music teachers insane.
He has a decent voice – Kina’s is much stronger and she does a great job on her second video. Landon is very relaxed.
I think they both did well – but I’m not sure if both are good enough for the contest. If it were me – I would vote for Kina with her voice winning out – Landon’s guitar playing is much better than hers.
The Trousered Ape’s last blog post..What Hope Does He Bring?
Yeah, the first one is just a goof anyways, not a real song…probably should have made that a bit more clear
But I agree with your analysis of them…kind of the same feeling I have.
