NBC leaves Journeyman lost in time

I first saw the news over at Inner 88 this morning, so I looked around to confirm the news and sadly, it appears that in a very passive way, NBC has put an end to Dan Vasser’s time traveling days.

According to SciFi.com and our friend Jason Clark, NBC had until December 11th to pick up additional episodes of Journeyman, which would have ensured it’s survival at least for this season.

Alas, the deadline snuck past without nary word from NBC and most out there agree that this means it’s over

And I don’t know for sure if you can totally blame the network, but I lump them all together anyways. I have a source at an NBC affiliate who tells me that it’s more of the local affiliates who dislike the ratings Journeyman gives them coming into their news broadcasts at 10pm.

It’s a sad day for sure if all of this is true. All we have left is next week’s two-episode hoopla, and therefore I will enjoy them as much as possible, for that could be all we ever get.

I hope the creators will talk to some writers out there if this is truly the end, and perhaps reveal to us the answers behind Dan and Olivia’s trips through time.

Another hope, which has never seemed to come to fruition anyways (especially when Firefly tried) is that a cable station picks it up, like Sci Fi.

Regardless, this is some bummer news to wake up to. It sure burns me up the way networks play with their viewers’ loyalty.

  1. Dude, sorry to be the one to break the news to you first thing in the morning. Trust me, it didn’t get my day started off very good either.

Sci-fi channel? Doesn’t seem action oriented enough for them. I’m sure they’ll pass. It’s too bad, though. There’s so much crap on TV you’d think a good show would have a decent chance.

  2. Was Dec 11th the original deadline date, and they haven’t officially announced anything because they have a little more leeway time to make a decision, due to the strike? Even if it was renewed for add’l episodes, nothing would happen right now anyways, right?
Trying to be a less than 1% optimist, but theres still a chance right?

  3. @ Capn - I still hold out a slight bit of hope, just as you…

@ Jason - You may be right about SciFi, but it sure would seem like a good show for that network.

  4. They should put it on U.S.A. It would do well with Monk and Psych (seriously, Psych isn’t cancelled?). Or maybe another channel will pick it up. Didn’t that happen with another show that got cancelled? Oh yes, my beloved Buffy the Vampire Slayer was cancelled but UPN saved the day. I’m still keeping my fingers crossed.

Or I’ll just start doing that Second Life thing. I hear that’s really addictive.

  5. We can only hope they move it to USA, but I don’t think NBC is that smart. Any network that brings back American Gladiators and brings us Clash of the Choirs is clearly out to lunch. NBC just sucks!

  6. [...] many were jumping all over the fact that NBC failed to renew Journeyman last week, there is still a grassroots effort going on at the two big “save Journeyman” websites [...]

  7. Yeah, I’m really going to miss Journeyman. I became hooked after the first couple episodes, and I can’t understand why it’s ratings are poor.

I echo the sentiments of a previous poster: put it on USA, Sci-Fi, heck…even Bravo, but keep it on the air.
