At first glance, “Cirque du Freak” sounds fairly intriguing. I mean, who doesn’t like a good story about a freak show, right? Upon further review, however, we learn that it’s really about vampires, and, frankly, I don’t know how many more vampire movies I can stomach before I go out and start hunting them myself…and by them I mean the people making vampire movies…not vampires…I’m cool with them…just so they know…if they’re out there…and are hungry…
Salma Hayek joined John C. Reilly today in the cast for “Cirque du Freak” to be directed by Paul Weitz (American Pie, About A Boy, In Good Company). The film is actually based on a bestselling series of children’s books by Darren Shan. There’s 12 of them, though, so let’s hope they don’t get all Harry Potter on us.
Reilly will play a vampire who drafts a 14 year old to serve as his assistant (because all good vampires need assistants). The youth is turned into a half-vampire (not sure how they do that) and becomes the catalyst in a battle between vampires and the rival Vampanese (not to be confused with the Vietnamese). Hayek will play Madame Truska, the bearded lady, in this, her first role since giving birth recently. I’m not sure it would have been my first choice, but I guess whatever works for her…
This actress is so gorgeous.
