Wow, a week without any real significant movies coming out, while television has a few interesting choices. Along with that are just three Blu-Ray titles and two in the soon to be defunct HD-DVD.
Never watched this show, but a lot of people dig it and this DVD release is their double-episode spoof on Star Wars. It commemorates Family Guy’s sixth season and the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars.
Extras: The Complete Series, including Finale
This is definitely the best title to come out this week and that’s coming from a guy who’s never seen it. I’ve heard nothing but great things about this new comedy from Ricky Gervais, the guy who brought us the original BBC The Office.
He stars as an extra in films, trying to make his mark while all the stars steal the show.
I only add this because Richard Roeper had this on his Top 10 Worst Movies of 2007. If we’re going to talk about the best DVDs coming out, may as well give some credit to the very, very worst.
DVD (267 total titles released)
- An Affair to Remember: 50th Anniversay – Never heard of this movie until Sleepless in Seattle
- When Harry Met Sally: Collector’s Edition - I’m kind of shocked there isn’t already a collector’s edition of this film
Blu-ray (3 total titles released)
- Good Luck Chuck
- Mr. Woodcock
- Suburban Girl
HD DVD (2 total titles released)
- The Ten
- The Lawless
I wanted to see the Ten… so that’s cool.
Also, can we make a pact to bring back the word “DIG”. Some may have thought that it went out in the late 80s/early 90s, but seeing it here in this post… I want to officially petition for its resurrection! Chant it with me: DIG, DIG, DIG. Nice…
Don’t knock the lingo sweetie pie.
Ya dig?
Actually, this new release is the 3rd version of When Harry Met Sally, and yes, the previous version WAS a special edition. I don’t know the differences on this one.
Extras is a very funny show–the 1st season is great, and then they take it in another direction in the 2nd season. The 1st season is more about him and his friend Maggie (brilliantly acted by the way) trying to make it in the biz. The 2nd season has Ricky’s character actually being successful and how difficult it is to maintain his dignity when having that success. Maybe not quite as funny as The Office, but pretty damn close.
I really liked the Russian version best. Have you seen it? Its called when Sally was hairy…..
So lame Cap’n….so lame
