The new James Bond film that is set for a November 22nd, 2008 release date has finally been given a name.
Hmm.
Doesn’t really roll off the tongue, and it really doesn’t seem like a very Bond-like name. For some reason I’m picturing James Spader and Laurence Fishburne in a science fiction movie about another dimension.
But that’s the name and you may be wondering where the heck they got it. Well, Bond author Ian Fleming wrote a bunch of short stories on the same character and there was one by this very name.
According to TheWest.com, this work of fiction was unlike Fleming’s other stories, because it lacked a real plot and even spies. It had to do more with the inner state of Bond’s mind. Which could be where this next film is going.
If you would rather not know the plot outline of this film, stop reading now.
Producer Michael G. Wilson had this to say:
“It’s from a Fleming short story from the compendium For Your Eyes Only. It’s uncharacteristic of most of Fleming’s work,” he said.
“It’s a character study that doesn’t involve plots or anything with spies. We thought it was an intriguing title that references what’s happening to Bond and what’s happening to him in this film,” Wilson hinted.
They want on to say that the film deals with Bond’s inner turmoil and has MUCH more action than Casino Royale.
EmpireOnline.com has uncovered a bit of what the story will be for the film:
We have learned that the plot centres on an attempted coup in a South American country. Dominic Greene^ (Mathieu Amalric), who works behind the cover of an organisation called Green Planet, wants to control one of the world’s most important natural resources* and to aid in this he makes a deal with an exiled South American general to get him back into power.
Olga Kurylenko’s character, Camille, is half Ukrainian and half South American. She leads Bond to Greene in his effort to find out more about Vesper, the woman he loved and lost in Casino Royale.
“James Bond is after revenge, and Camille is after revenge,” Kurylenko said. “They have slightly different goals, but in the end they are going to have to collaborate”.
I like the idea for the plot and perhaps the name of the movie will grow on me. I will say that Casino Royale is probably my favorite James Bond movie to date, so that gives me a lot of hope for this one.
And it will be nice to see Craig in something good after The Invasion and The Golden Compass.
Nice to know that a movie title really doesn’t have any effect on the overall movie itself. I’ve never thought the Bond movies had that great of names anyway.
Like the name and I really like where they’re taking the franchise under Daniel Craig. To me he’s the best Bond since Connery.

I was skeptical of craig as bond, he did a great job and now I’m looking forward to the next one…
Hmmm not sure about the name. It’s almost as bad as when George Lucas said he was going to call Star Wars Episode One The Phantom Menace.
Oh well.. I guess it doesn’t matter as long as the movie is good.

I am a late adopter to the Bond franchise. I have not seen all the earlier ones because I really did not get pulled into the story until Pierce Brosnan starred as Bond. I love Casino Royale – great flick. I have seen a couple of the older ones and thought they were ok.
Yeah, I never really got into Bond until Brosnan either, so I’m with you. Although I think I did watch like 4-5 of them with Connery back in college years when my buddy got me this 5 volume VHS Bond set.
But I don’t remember much of them at all.
VHS? Is that some kind of disease? Does “Jina” know?
Oh yeah ! I watch “Casino royale” for the big star Daniel Craig
It’s verry good =)
