It looks as though the relatively unknown, Channing Tatum, will be playing Duke in the “G.I. Joe” movie currently in casting director Stephen Sommers.
Duke is the code name of First Sergeant Conrad S. Hauser. He is field commander and second-in-command of the G.I. Joe Team after Hawk. He is widely considered one of the main characters of G.I. Joe despite the fact that he did not appear in the comic series for a number of issues and was not one of the original toys. He did, however, appear on the popular G.I. Joe cartoon series.
Tatum is one of Hollywood’s up and coming stars and with being cast as Duke he has landing one of two major roles he was up for this week (the other being in Michael Mann’s “Public Enemies“). Tatum’s most famous roles were in the films “Coach Carter,” “She’s The Man,” and “Step Up,” but he also has a role in the soon to be released “Stop Loss.”
In “G.I. Joe,” Tatum will be joining Sienna Miller (The Baroness), Ray Park (Snake Eyes), Rachel Nichols (Scarlett), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Heavy Duty), Said Taghmaoui (Breaker), Marlon Wayans (Ripcord), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Rex) and Byung-hun Lee (Storm Shadow) who have already been cast.
The actors portraying Destro, Zartan, Hawk, Shipwreck and Cover Girl should be announced sometime within the next week.
“G.I. Joe” is set to be released in August 2009.
It’s the good chance for Tatum to prove his acting skill…The opportunity to be the main character of G.I.Joe will not come twice.

Although this comment is hell of late I would just love to say Mr Tatum did an excellent job bringing my favorite joe to life Duke as always be my favorite character and for them to chose Mr Tatum was fantastic He knocked it out of the park but i was not at all surprised because I have seen and own all his movies and I don’t care what any one says I believe he is a PHENOMENAL Actor and he did Duke justice thank you Mr Tatum for another outstanding movie
