There’s so many directions this project could go (most of them down) that I shudder to think of the possibilities. I did have a moment of fright last week when I heard the news that Ice Cube is actively campaigning to get the role of B.A. Baracus originated by Mr. T himself. That’s why I was happy to read the interview the guys over at Collider.com managed to snag with John Singleton while he was waiting for his car.
A few of the highlights:
- No one has been cast yet (which means there’s still time to stop the Ice Cube insanity)
- He wants Woody Harrelson to play Murdock
- The movie is not a farce like “Starsky & Hutch” – will be like an 80’s action movie. Think “Lethal Weapon,” very serious but with humor
- Everyone signing on will sign for multiple films (hooray, sequel…I’m being sarcastic)
- No budget yet
- The guys who wrote the script for “3:10 To Yuma” are doing the rewrite of this script (best news I’ve heard all week)
I’m not sure if any of this means the movie will turn out to be watchable or not. I liked the TV show…in the 80s…not so much now. Harrelson seems like a good choice to play Murdock. Let me just go out on a limb here and recommend George Clooney for the role of Hannibal. I mean, I know he probably wouldn’t do it, but can you think of anyone else that would fit the part better? Come to think of it, Brad Pitt would make a pretty good Faceman…wouldn’t want to get the whole Ocean’s 11 thing going, though. Might have to pick someone else.
You already know how I feel about Ice Cube. Of course, I don’t know who else could play the part. Actually, I saw Mr. T on a commercial not too long ago and he doesn’t look that old. Slap some make-up on him and see if he’s ready to go another round. Who isn’t ready for the return of Mr. T?

I’m actually happy they aren’t doing a spoof. I’m pretty sick of the whole spoofing and making fun of old shows that we actually thought were pretty good at the time thing. I think it would be much cooler to make “The A-Team” hot again so us old folk (well, I’m only in my 30s but still) can say we watched that show way back when…
What do you think?

Another dumb idea for a movie. To quote Mr. T, “I pity the fools, they should have never come back.”

I’m with Frank on this one. The original show was fine in the ’80s, but let’s leave it there. I would think Hollywood could do better…then again.
Scott’s last blog post..The real Gen X, who knew?
To do better than The A-Team would require an original idea, which, I think it’s safe to say, have gone extinct in Hollywood. Therefore, they had no choice but to resurrect The A-Team because if you have a mission and no one else will help, who else can you turn to?
So, are they gonna shoot people this time? That would be accurate, yet untrue to the series. Oh, the dilemma!

That’s the beauty of the A-Team. They’re so good they don’t actually have to shoot anyone because they’re able to shoot close enough and plan explosions so precisely as to disable even the most stubborn enemy without doing any more harm to them than a mild concussion.
Another TV series made into a movie… where is the H & R Puff-n-Stuff movie?!?!?
I have no idea what that is.
I dont make this stuff up….

Now that’s a killer hit waiting to happen if I’ve ever seen it. Forget Cloverfield! HR Pufnstuf is where it’s at!
