The Writer’s Strike ended and we got the only awards show that anyone in Hollywood really cares about anyway – the Academy Awards (otherwise known as the Oscars). Jon Stewart did a fair job hosting but I doubt this will go down in anyone’s book as one of the better Oscar ceremonies.
The awards themselves were a little bit all over the place early in the night so it was hard to tell which movie had the upper hand. At one point I was beginning to wonder if I was watching the Oscars or some other International film awards show as it seemed almost every winner was someone from another country. In the end, however, most of the big awards, with the notable exception of Best Actress, went pretty much as everyone had expected.
Winners are in BOLD.

The Coens missed out on a chance to make Oscar history four wins for a single film when they lost in the Film Editing category, for which they were nominated under the pseudonym Roderick Jaynes.
The Coens still had a good night, however, as Best Picture winner, No Country For Old Men, ended up with the most wins with 4 Oscars. Believe it or not, The Bourne Ultimatum won the second most Oscars of the night with 3. There Will Be Blood and La Vie en Rose had 2 Oscars each, but no other movie had more than a single Oscar at the end of the night.
I was pretty happy for Diablo Cody and obviously the win for Falling Slowly.
Jon had a few moments, but overall…it was just okay. Although I did like seeing all the previous 79 Best Picture winners and the previous best actor, actress and directors…
As much as I want Johnny Depp to win an Oscar, I think Daniel Day Lewis deserves the award. Maybe next time for Johnny.

I have no doubt Johnny Depp will win the Award fairly soon. He’s already racked up like three Best Actor nominations in five years. The Academy has a history of giving the award to someone after overlooking them for several years. I’m already going out on a limb and saying he might win for Michael Mann’s “Public Enemies” next year. We’ll see.
How about that Bourne Ultimatum winning 3 Oscars baby!!!!
I didn’t even bother watching it this year…So sad.

Yes. Yes you are.
I went from hosting Oscar parties every year to not really caring. I think it is because Mike would never come – always had some lame excuse…

Apparently, this Oscar telecast drew 21% FEWER viewers this year over last. That’s a pretty big drop, even for an awards program.
It’s like you’re psychic or something. My post about that went up just a little bit ago…
I thought it was actually a decent Oscars telecast, even if the winners were a little predictable. I thought Jon Stewart was funny without being annoying, and I liked the historical context they used, being it was the 80th.
No country for old men is one of the best movies I have ever watched. It is deserved that award.
falling slowly is a fantastic song. The selectors have done great job.
