Awesome episode. The actor that plays Fahrety is great. He was great in Saving private ryan, too. To answer MadFan, The reason the show ended in parel, is because the quote that was in Fahrety's book that Desmond was his constant proves that the past does affect the future. Which fahrety originally believed the past could not change the future. He didn't write that quote until after Desmond mind travelled back in time and met him at Oxford. So when Daniel read the book at the end with the quote that " f anything goes wrong, Desmonfd is my constant." He freaked because his belief that the the past does't affect the future was falsified. This is turning out to be an awesome season. Can't wait to se who the other 2 of the Oceanic 6 are. Apparently we will find them out over the next two episodes.

This episode was certainly one of my MOST favorite 3 episodes. By the end of the episode I lost my mind.. It was insane!

We get so many answers from this episode. Penny's father bought that book that was taken from the 'Black Rock' (The ship with the explosives). Anyone else thinks that based on the findings of what he saw in the book - he started that boat race thing, in hopes of someone finding the Island by coincidence?

Daniel asked Desmond: "This future version of me, he referenced this meeting, right? Obviously. So I'm gonna remember you coming to talk to me, I'll remember this, here, right now?"
Desmond replied: "Actually, no".

However, Daniel did remember the meeting, and he already wrote that Desmond is his contact before he got on the Island. A contact he knew in his past and in the present.

Desmond also asked Daniel if the future can be changed, but Dan said it couldn't. Didn't Daniel change the future by helping Desmond find his contact?

Also, why didn't Daniel help George overcome this? One might argue that the Freighter people on the Island weren't informed about George's condition... But I don't know, it just seems to me that Daniel wants to make sure that his "constant" doesn't die. Just in case he loses it (As if he didn't lose it already lol).

As for when did Desmond get his memory back - It was the instant second he heard Penny's voice in the future (Present to be accurate) after the past Desmond saw Penny. Anyone noticed when Desmond told Penny that he was on an Island when she asked "Where are you Desmond?"

As for Michael's orders, Ben might not be in touch with Michael right now. However, it isn't that hard for Ben to tell Michael: "Once you find the communications room unguarded, destroy all their equipments".

I kinda feel sad that George died. I was hoping he'd get a bigger role. Oh by the way, Anyone else disappointed in the freighter? I thought it'd be bigger and fancier for some reason xD

Another crappy movie connection, Butterfly Effect, although in this case you can't change history, only live it where you get sent.

I'll chime in on that question Mike - although I'm not sure DL and I see the way one this.

I think Desmond will continue to experience time-jumping still. However, with a constant, it will not have the negatively disorienting effect it was having. I believe for Daniel it is all still theory and not actualized yet, otherwise he might already be dead? The reason I think that is because he wrote in his notebook that Desmond would be his constant. I would assume that means future and not yet.

Alright Frank, it's added to the list :)

@ DL - You think he has the same effects happening to him? Maybe because of his machine?

Last night's show was a rollercoaster ride! I think the Desmond-centric episodes are the best. Desmond and Penny's plot line rises above the rest. (Hey, that rhymes!) I can't remember the last time TV was this good! Awesome writing, five-star acting. Wow.

So...we learned why no one was allowed to talk to Minkowski - 'cause dude was in the process of losing his mind! And it was cool that we learned alot more about Daniel Faraday, the physicist. It makes sense that he's sympathetic to the losties, and Desmond in particular, if he has been dealing with the side-effects of time jumping too. It explains all his weird nervous-nelly type behavior over the last several episodes.

<em>D.L. White's last blog post..<a href='http://mystorminateacup.blogspot.com/2008/02/lets-get-lost-episode-5-constant.html' rel="nofollow">Let's get LOST! (Episode 5 - The Constant)</a></em>

You really need to read Slaughterhouse Five Mike. It will give you some insights into what is inspiring many of the Lost scripts, particularly when it comes to Desmond's time jumping.
