    I think considering how much they’ve screwed up things with the Lord of the Rings franchise by not paying out what they should, being sued, etc., this is probably a good idea.

    I agree with Mike on that. Also, I hope this means that with WB Muscle behind it, LOTR will be released on Blu sooner rather than later.

    However, I do hope this does not jeopardize anything in regards to The Hobbit and Peter Jackson’s involvement. Does this spell another set back in trying to get that off the ground? I hope not.

    The writing was on the wall here–New Line was pretty much a subsidiary of Warner Bros. all along anyway, it just makes sense for a studio that is hurting to be absorbed by the studio that isn’t hurting all that much. Plus, you have the added bonus of Warner Bros. marketing and home entertainment at your disposal. Good move for the studio.
