Wow, this is a historic day.
Sometimes sports has a way of entering into the world of pop culture, and while it may be borderline, the fact that Brett Favre is retiring from the NFL after playing for an amazing 17 seasons, I felt it was worth noting here.
Heck, Brett Favre made some of the best commercials ever. My favorite one, which a friend recently reminded me of, what his infamous Mastercard Monday Morning Quarterback commercial:
[youtube ZoEGYFzS0jA]
“I’d have double-bagged it.”
Now that is priceless!
I’ve lived in Arizona my entire life, so there is no real reason that I’m a huge fan of Brett Favre other than I love the guy for who he is and how he’s played the game.
He’s competitive and tough, but plays like a kid who just discovered a newfound love for football. He flashes a smile everywhere he goes.
He’s one of the few NFL quarterbacks playing right now where the defense respects him enough to pull him to his feet after they sack him.
That’s awesome.
The guy played for 17 seasons! That’s amazing. He holds a bunch of records now, for passing yards, touchdowns, number of starts, you name it, he’s done it.
I think the league will miss the guy a lot and so will the fans. To me he represented one of the last old school guys in the league and it’s a bummer to see him finally step down.
The great part of all this to me is that he’s doing it with his head held high, after taking his team to a 13-3 season and making it into the second round of the playoffs. A nice way to go out.
Hopefully he returns to the NFL in some capacity, like an announcer or color analyst…because I think we still need him around.
We’ll miss you Brett, enjoy your first year off from training camp in quite a long time.
Wow! That blows my mind. I really thought he’d be back for at least one more season. He’ll be missed.
Very sad – I can’t believe it is over…next season will not be the same.

YES!!!! Thank you God.

Definitely the end of an era. One of the all time greats.
Sorry Nicky, but hatin on Brett won’t help your hapless Bears.
Scotty Dub’s last blog post..How small is your home office?
Scotty – you got that right – the Bears sucked pre-Brett, during Brett, and post-Brett. Nicky – this does not change your world one bit.

Oh man! I hadn’t heard this yet. I thought he would go one more year… of course, I’ve been saying that for several years now, but that’s not the point.
Man, now who am I going to avoid drafting in my fantasy league?
BEARS?? Are you crazy Scott? I’m from Minnesota! Favre has been a thorn in our side forever. GO VIKES!

Do you think they asked him to leave because of that gay stripper thing? Oh wait, I’m getting my pop culture and football mixed up.
Brett, I will miss you… (insert dramatic voice here) in the frozen tundra… of Lambeau Field…
Bears, Vikings…whatever, they are all the same…

Here we go…

Nicky, it wont help your Vikings either
But honestly N-to-the-icky…you gotta admit it’s going to be sad to have the thorn-in-your-side gone from the NFL
@ Jeff, if you had him last year, you might have won yours!
I love Brett Favre. I’m a Cowboys fan and we OWNED him!
So you hate Eli Manning then?
No, it makes me very happy actually. Yes, I think Brett was a great player, it’s just that the Packers are my enemy so anything that will help us beat them next season is good to me! Plus, I am a grumpy, sick with a cold, pregnant lady who can’t take any Nyquil right now and this is actually made my day a little better.

Nic…. Don’t hate the playa… hate the game… as Ben Stiller would say “Brett Fav…re..” we will miss you!!
We own Eli Manning too…too…two out of three!
I had Ben Roethlisberger and I did win last year. In fact, I repeated as my League Champion. I also spanked Jason in my Salary Cap challenge, but I’m not sure he wants to speak about that publicly.
There’s always next year.
Still, I’ve essentially grown up watching him play and it’s going to be odd (if he stays retired) seeing some other QB for the Packers.
Congrats then…I’ve won back to backs…it’s a nice feeling.
My, the two of you are getting along well these days…
Please, Jeff. You had Ben Roethlisberger. I had Ben Roethlisberger. Everyone had Ben Roethlisberger. I’m not sure I fully understood all the rules in your pseudo-league, so I had to gracefully bow out mid-way through the season. You remember? It was right around the time all my players got hurt and I couldn’t trade anymore. So, I’m sure next year will be different.
But even I wasn’t brave enough to keep Brett on the roster, no matter how much I loved him. Cause the Cowboys OWNED him!
Owned…heh, whatever.

Everyone had Ben? It’s a salary cap league? That’s for wimps…real men play head to head, auction draft leagues!
No, Jason is confusing our leagues. I was in about 5 leagues. The salary cap league I had Tom Brady and Tony Romo for pretty much the entire season.
Nobody could touch me. The draft league that I run, I took Big Ben in like the 10th round and came out way ahead because that was a major value pick so I was able to stock up on RBs and WRs.
Jason can handle fantasy stuff – well, unless it’s like a gay stripper idol fantasy league – then he owns. LOL
Gay Stripper Idol Fantasy League – Now you’ve confused me with Mike again…
How would you like to explain that to your wife? “What kind of league are you in again?”
