The American Idol Results show for week 4 of Season 7 live performances concluded the top 12. On Wednesday night we got our first taste of how the voting public really feels about the remaining contestants (well, the bottom ones anyway) and we said goodbye to one of our top 12. If you missed the performance show on Tuesday night you can always watch the performances and read our recaps right here:
I wasn’t really surprised by the people who ended up in the bottom three despite the fact that they weren’t really the contestants I had placed in my bottom three. I had a sneaky suspicion about all of them long before I posted my list, but I didn’t listen to my instincts. If you’ll recall, I placed the Top 12 performances in this order:
- Chikezie Eze
- David Cook
- Brooke White
- Jason Castro
- Carly Smithson
- Michael Johns
- Kristy Lee Cook
- Syesha Mercado
- David Archuleta
- David Hernandez
- Ramiele Malubay
- Amanda Overmyer
I think Amanda is consistently terrible although the judges and the rest of America apparently does not agree with me. I knew David Archuleta would be no where near the bottom of the voting list. My pick to be voted out was Ramiele Malubay. As it turned out, the bottom three turned out like this:
- Syesha Mercado
- Kristy Lee Cook
- David Hernandez

When it was all said and done, David Hernandez was the contestant voted out of the competition. We don’t know how close the vote was, of course, but we knew that his time was coming regardless.
Why Syesha Mercado and Kristy Lee Cook Made The Bottom Three
- Syesha Mercado – Syesha performed first in the performance show which is almost always a kiss of death (at least good for a bottom three appearance). At to that the fact that her song choice was forgettable and her performance was boring for the most part and you have the recipe for a bottom three appearance. As the only black female left in the competition Syesha should have a huge voting block pulling for her. She needs to reexamine her song choices, her mannerisms, behaviors, and pretty much everything else she’s doing that might be affecting how people perceive her. She’s really pretty and has a strong voice so there’s a reason why she’s not getting the votes from her niche. She needs to find out what it is.
- Kristy Lee Cook – Kristy, apparently, stands with her feet too far apart, thus angering women all over American… Okay, that’s a bit of an inside joke here at Pop Critics, but there’s obviously something about Kristy that audiences aren’t connecting with. We’ve seen contestants be very successful with the country niche before. Kristy sings country well. She’s pretty and affable. The only real negative, that I can see, is that people haven’t cared for her song choices. She’s in a really precarious position now because if she sticks with country she’s likely to get a backlash but if she doesn’t she’s not likely to stand out enough to get noticed. Her next song choice will probably determine whether or not Kristy has a chance to make the top 10 or not.
Why David Hernandez Lost American Idol
David is a good looking guy who actually sings very well. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have as clearly a defined style of music as many of the other contestants. In years past this wouldn’t have mattered as much, but this year it’s obvious that America wants it’s Idols to be upfront about what style of music they are and are going to be. David couldn’t do this.
David further had to deal with the controversy surrounding his possible job at a gay dance club. Whether or not he actually worked there and whether or not he is gay or straight doesn’t matter so much as the fact that the perception is that he is a gay guy who stripped for other gay guys in a seedy strip club. There was no way he was going to be able to overcome that stigma among the general population. David lacked the personality, style and talent to overcome such a controversy.
If he had been given more time there’s a chance he could have found his niche. He was a good enough vocalist that had he chosen the right songs he could have wowed audiences enough to stay in the competition for a while. Unfortunately, the competition this year is simply too talented and too strong. David had virtually no chance of winning.

If you’re keeping score with the little side contest Jeff (from Static ThinkBox) and I have going… Jeff correctly guess that David Hernandez would be the one kicked off the show while I was incorrect. The score is below.
For a quick recap from a slightly different perspective, swing by Static ThinkBox and see what Jeff has to say about the ousted contestants.
I was hoping that when he sang his last song, a pole would rise up from the middle of the stage…
Jina commented on how strong his arms and shoulder’s looked…well, you kind of need that to swing from a pole
I thought it was funny how Kristy Lee Cook had to sing her song again and apologized for it…
A lot of crap going on with Jim Carrey and Horton, so much cross-promotion…
The producers of the show should have apologized to Kristy and the audience for making her perform it again. Man that was bad.
Steven’s last blog post..That’s What She Said . . . II
Conspiracy Theory, no way did he have lowest votes, fox didnt even address the whole controversy surrounding david , this is how they did it I bet was by ousting him. As Jason said, he had no overall chance of winning so it was a matter of time, but worst of the previous night and lowest votes?!?! No chance…. the Cap’n claims shinanagans, and Fox NEVER revelas their voting tally totals…
and I really cant stand Paula…
I actually wanted Ramiele or Kristy Cook(whatever her name is, I don’t care) to go home. I’m kinda tired of these girls (this isn’t affiliated with jealousy) who are pretty but can’t sing, or are boring and think they can last on the show based on their looks. David H. didn’t do well with his last performance but he was a good singer and I’m suspicious because I think it may be a conspiracy by Idol. As for Amanda, I don’t get why people don’t like her. Yes, she doesn’t sing like a song bird (like Carly, Ramiele, Brooke, etc) but shes sooo unique. I love her sound its so vintage, heavy, bluesy, etc. I think the reason is because people don’t understand her style. Yeah, ok…she looked like Lily Munster but who cares. Her voice is so unique and reminiscent of Janis Joplin which was a wonderful singer back in her days and we don’t hear voices like that anymore. Amy Winehouse is really successful (disregard her personal drug problems) and she slurs her words sometimes but its her unique, jazzy sound…thats why Amanda is so great. We finally hear someone different on Idol. Ok, if Amanda doesn’t do well on Idol…I’m sure (at least hoping) that she comes around post Idol. I’d definately buy her albums or songs.
“Looked like Lily Munster” – hilarious, Pamela
Heh, supposedly shes been compared to Cruella Devile, Lily Munster, and Beetlejuice.
It’s a talent competition. I’m different. That doesn’t mean you want to hear me sing. Who cares how different Amanda is? She’s not being held to the same standards as the other contestants because she’s different? That’s not right. I mean, if people like her then they should vote for her. I don’t like her style and I don’t think she can sing well. There’s not much I can say about her that would be good.
All in the bottom three last night deserved to be there. I think they should have sent them all home together just to avoid the inevitable. I can’t believe I will have to suffer through a few more weeks of their bad singing.
And did anyone see who was in the audience last night? Sanjaya was there – what a joke…
The Trousered Ape’s last blog post..American Idol: You Pick the Songs – Week 1
Sanjaya’s the host on some show on the TV Guide channel or something. He’s pretty bad on that too.
That’s ridiculous…who would put him on TV…
@Ape i didnt notice Sanjaya but i did notice Danny who was listed as whats her names family and “friend” , i think it should have said “family and girlfriend”….
Was it just me or was the Jim Carrey spectacle embarrassing, I dunno why but I thought that was below him… I’m struggling to describe it….hard to watch…
FYI: I still cant stand Paula….
Yeah, the Jim Carrey thing was pretty sad…like watching the Nickelodeon awards or something.
I feel ya Cap’n – I can’t stand Paula either…
@ Jason – it is the one thing Sanjaya is good at – being bad.
The Trousered Ape’s last blog post..American Idol: You Pick the Songs – Week 1
I love the legs far apart comment on Kristy Lee- thanks Jason! I know I’m not the only one who notices it though!
And wasn’t Sanjaya looking a bit like Yanni last night? Adrian and I were laughing that he was going to start wearing flowy robes and blessing people with good karma.
I didn’t think David H. deserved to go home so soon. He is a much better singer than half of the girls on the show.
nicky’s last blog post..J.Crew Via Vittoria Jacket
I think Jina said something about the spread legs too.
I agree about Sanjaya. For some reason I already picture him wearing a robe…
As for David…he probably would have stayed longer if he would have done a little of that dancing for us…

This site is full of hypocrite haters including the one/s writing this article. Im specifically pointing to Pamela and others who are attacking RAMIELE MALUBAY. I just stumbled on this website and this article really suck bigtime! The blogger or writer cannot even make good predictions. And how can you possibly, Pamela, say that Ramiele cannot sing when the judges acknowledge the fact that she has a great voice but is just unfortunate she’s given a limited choice of songs from a songbook (Beatles) which was created 20 years before she was born? I think, Pamela you’re such a pathetic hater, common read your post again. And how dare you, owner/writer of this article, predict that Ramiele will be eliminated when she’s well loved by young and old americans, asians, latinos and black crowd as evidenced by the comments from many websites and blogs ( which ones? it’s for you to research!). Ramile haters are STUPID FOOLS! I am not mean as I come to you now but Im just giving the same courtesy to these people! If you want nice forum for American Idol leave this website and go to http://rickey.org . To all RAMIELE HATERS …wake up and smell the coffee cause she is the NEXT AMERICAN IDOL!It’s easy for you people to criticize when you’re not on the stage doing the singing and the performance yourselves! And to the owner of this site…YOU BETTER WATCH OUT COS you cannot analyze the contest outcome properly! As Simon would say, FIND ANOTHER JOB (or hobby!) AMP!
No way she’s the next American Idol

@chicco18
LOL! What? Are you her dad or something?
I predict that Ramiele will not win American Idol. Bet I get that prediction right.
I don’t hate her and I hardly fit the definition of a hypocrite (maybe YOU should look that up). I’m simply stating my opinions which anyone and everyone is free to agree or disagree with. I don’t think Ramiele is as talented as some of the other contestants. I think she’s really cute and I wish her luck…but she’s not going to win this contest. Sorry.
ROTFL – wow, that was a fun little rant…
1. Nothing hypocritical was pointed out in that blast, so in the infamous words of Inigo Montoya, “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”
2. She will be gone with the next 4 cuts – she will not see the top 6 – that is my prediction.

Perhaps David Hernandez lost the American Idol, simply because he don’t deserve the title of being an idol. He sing’s well but i guess there’s another break that awaits him…
