Pretty much all talk about Al Pacino’s movies these days centers around his role in Righteous Kill which he’s doing with Robert De Niro. That’s understandable, of course.
I saw a preview this weekend for a movie of his, however, that I didn’t even know existed – 88 Minutes. I’m not sure what the whole story on this movie is. The only posters I could find were foreign and it looks like the film has already been released all over the world, on DVD in many places.
The preview looks pretty decent to me. I don’t know that I’d say it’s the most compelling preview I’ve seen all year, but it certainly looks like a movie that could attract some attention. Why was it released all over the world on DVD before even getting a US release? I have no idea. I’d guess it has something to do with financing and who paid for it. But Pacino looks good and the film looks much better than Two For the Money which is the film he made just prior to this one (and which I still haven’t seen).

I saw this awhile ago and had always meant to post it but forgot. There is indeed something weird about why it wasn’t released here, but I forget why now.
I think it looks cool…almost like an 88-minute episode of 24…could almost be real-time.
I was going to chuck this on my Netflix queue, but the reviews over there go from “dismal” to “forgettable.” Think I may wait…
@ Mike – a throw back to the Phone Booth movie perhaps. I typically think that Pacino is magnificent in whatever he does, but this might be pushing it for me.

I liked Phone Booth, that was a fun little movie.
Like I said, I hadn’t heard anything about this movie, but the preview looks okay. Can you already get it on Netflix?
The release date was unknown at Netflix; I just saved it to my queue for whenever it comes out. Looks interesting enough, and it doesn’t appear to be one of Pacino’s over the top performances that he’s thrown out there a few times.
This kind of feels like a cross between Nick of Time and DOA. Both of which (all three, actually, if you consider that DOA was a remake) are underrated films.)

to me pacino was good in it and it was a very well
put together movie
