UPDATE: I am changing the title of this blog to a question instead of a statement because CNN is reporting the while he does have pancreatic cancer, his treatments are going well. It’s hard to know for sure the real story at this time and we’ll see what develops over the next few days.
Talk about stories coming out of left field this year. First there was the tragic death of Heath Ledger that you could never see coming, and now you have this horribly sad story hitting the web about Patrick Swayze.
The National Enquirer broke the news, but since then it’s apparently been picked up by a ton of legit sources, like FOX, so there is little doubt it’s true.
Swayze was diagnosed with cancer around two months ago, and the life expectancy at that time was 6-9 months, but treatments haven’t gone well and reportedly the doctor have told him to prepare for only about five weeks left in his life.
Here is the full scoop from the Enquirer:
Swayze’s rep confirmed the sad news Wednesday. Full details are in the print edition of the NATIONAL ENQUIRER that goes on sale Thursday.
For the past month, Patrick, 55, has been traveling to Stanford University’s prestigious cancer center in Palo Alto for radical chemotherapy, but his doctors are no longer optimistic that the treatments will be successful.
Patrick and his wife Lisa Niemi â€â€? who both have pilot’s licenses â€â€? have been flying their private Beechcraft plane into Palo Alto’s airport, minutes away from the Stanford Cancer Center, where the actor has received outpatient treatment.
He received three doses of chemotherapy and the tumor shrank, but less than his doctors had hoped for and Patrick was told he should prepare for the end.
“He was told he could have two more treatments, but his cancer was not responding. In short – they held out little hope for a cure,” said an insider.
The man who danced into the hearts of audiences worldwide in the 1980s in Dirty Dancing and then broke them in the poignant love story Ghost in the early ’90s has lost more than 20 pounds in the past few weeks and is restricted to a liquid diet because he has trouble keeping down solid food, added the insider.
“It’s time to start praying for a miracle.”
I have to say, I’ve always loved the movie Dirty Dancing just for the sheer guilty pleasure of it all, and it’s just devastating to hear this news about the guy who really made that movie what it was.
I can’t imagine what it must be like to be told you only have five weeks left and my prayers go out to Patrick and his family.
Such sad news.

Very sad news…

He’s so nice and a good family man too. So sad!

Not sure what to believe here. Whatever the case I certainly wish him and his family well. I do believe pancreatic cancer is usually pretty serious and often fatal. I remember when Jerry Orbach had cancer his people said he was recovering and due back at work any day and then he was dead. Hopefully not the case for Patrick Swayze.

Yeah, it’s going to really suck if this is true. Right now it’s hard to know how much of the story is true.
The Today show this morning said like only 5-10% of those with this type of cancer live longer than 5 years.
Ugh.
