This week I’ve finally gotten my wife to start watching Battlestar Galactica, and it was her own choice, but I’m sure my constant oogling over it had some effect.
So far we’ve gotten through Season 1 and 5 episodes of Season 2, and she’s enjoying it. I knew she would. However, she wants to make sure YOU ALL KNOW it’s still a science fiction show, even if I try to tell you all that it’s way more than that.
The only bummer is that she wont be caught up for tonight’s Season 4 premiere, but I’m sure we’ll catch up sometime next week.
On the subject of TV series and watching them on DVD comes this week’s Friday Question.
What TV series do you want to start watching on DVD that you haven’t seen before?
We love to watch TV shows we’ve never seen before on DVD, because you can just rip through them and not miss important stuff. BSG has been great, because I’m catching stuff I missed before. We also just checked out the 13-episode season of Kitchen Confidential, which was pretty entertaining.
For me, my answer is The Sopranos. I’ve heard it’s awesome, I know it’s awesome, but it’s a daunting SIX seasons long and I’ve not found the time to just sit down and start watching.
What about you? What’s next on your list for TV shows on DVD?
You can put me down for pretty much all of the HBO series that everyone said was good, The Sopranos included. I haven’t seen any of them.
I’ve seen a lot of the episodes from Enterprise but I didn’t see much from the last few seasons so I’ve been thinking of sitting down and watching the whole series in order. So, I guess Star Trek: Enterprise would be my pick.
Man, I guess I will have to be unoriginal and say Galactica because I can’t think of another show I would want to watch on DVD right now. The only problem is, a few of the twists/surprises have been spoiled for me because I was an idiot and watched part of the SciFi Channel special on it last week. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
And guys, check out The Sopranos. I watched the whole series on DVD. Except for a few hiccups, it is incredible and one of my all time favorites. Once you start watching it you will forget that you have six seasons to get through.

Definitely, Entourage. We have seen a few episodes over the years and liked it. However, since we do not have HBO, we never got on the bandwagon. Sopranos would be next.
I saw a few of the Soprano’s and thought there were terrific and would love to see those from the beginning, so that’s one.
The New BSG is another along with FireFly (which we have on DVD, but haven’t taken the time to start going through).
Heroes and Life were a couple of others that I had heard good things about. I think I can catch up on both of those on Hulu, but I’m not sure if they have all the episodes posted yet.

Completely forgot about Entourage. That would have to be at the top of my list.
Steven’s last blog post..Top 100 Movies: Jack Bauer, The Dark Knight, and The Coens
Entourage is worth it and it’s a quick one because of the 30 minute format, so you can rip through those quick.
Firefly, BSG are good ones of course
Okay… I have a few. The Sopranos, of course. Also Sex and the City (haven’t seen them all). Runners-up would include: How I Met Your Mother and House.
Oh, and “but I’m sure we’ll catch up sometime next week”. Next week! That’s a lot of BSG watching between now and then! I better take my anti-radiation medicine!
If you can get through like 30 more episodes in a week, I’ll think yer a Cylon…and like Helo, it will NOT be a problem for me
Tracy watches How I met your mother. She says it is pretty decent.
I’d only buy a TV series DVD if I had seen it before hand. Since these sets are usually quite expensive I can’t see throwing down $100+ for them even with a good rep.
However, I have been catching several series I missed the first time around now that they’re on Hulu. This includes Chuck, Burn Notice (sadly, no longer on Hulu), Firefly, Kitchen Nightmares (Gordon Ramsey reminds me of Vic of Blogger Unleashed!) and a few others. I’ve even been catching up with shows like Time Tunnel I vaguely remember seeing as a kid.

You could also just RENT them Frank, you don’t have to buy
jina, i can’t believe you gave in.
i can’t really think of any series i want to watch that i haven’t yet. i didn’t watch all the seasons of the soprano’s or sex and the city though since i had to cancel hbo on my poor college student budget. so i’d like to finish those!
nicky’s last blog post..Shopping picks.
@ Jason Enterprise season 3 was the best… this series was cut way too short!!!
@ Jina watch a whole season in whole day, thats what the Cap’n did!!!
@ Frank C, crap!?!?! Burn Notice isnt on Hulu anymore?!?! Doh! My parents wanted me to watch that …. ruh roh…
But my pick for a series is…. Jina picked it for me, Lost. She picked up BSG, so I agreed to catch Lost….
Can’t wait to see what you think Cap’n….you got a lot to catch up on. And I think Lost has more episodes per season than BSG
I just cant imagine its BSG-esque, but I will try to not have any expectations, will probably be able to start it in about a week, I’ll give you and Mrs. Mo updates…
Lost for me, but at this point I’m just going to wait until it’s finished up and watch it from the start (relatively) unspoiled. Other than I know there was a four-toed statue and a hatch.
I refused to watch it the first season because I’d seen what J.J. was like before. He could put together a smashing one, or one and a half, seasons of a show and then run out of ideas and steam. Little did I know at the time that Carlton Cuse would be brought on to showrun. Oh well.
The other show I never watched (because I’m too cheap to pay for HBO just to get two series and endless showings of Norbit) was The Wire, so I’ll need to rent season one of that and see if it really is the “Best Show Ever” TM. If so, I’ll probably buy that, too.

Burn Notice is awesome – I actually think that Michael can kick Jack Bauer’s butt if it came down to it. He is way cool…
The Trousered Ape’s last blog post..American Idol (2008) – Week 7 – Top 3
What the crap?
Take that back!
I disagree with The Trousered Ape. Michael would send Jack Bauer to his room without any dinner instead. Even he would feel bad beating up someone so…Leprechaun-like.
R.A. Porter’s last blog post..FSW: Barista Blues
Lol – Michael is Bauer 2.0 – new and improved.
The Trousered Ape’s last blog post..American Idol (2008) – Week 7 – Top 3
Please. Michael who?
The city of Los Angeles once named a street after Jack Bauer in gratitude for his saving the city several times. They had to rename it after people kept dying when they tried to cross the street. No one crosses Jack Bauer and lives.
Most people would need months to recover from 20 months of Chinese interrogation. Jack Bauer needed a shower, a shave and a change of clothes.
There are three leading causes of death among terrorists. The first two are Jack Bauer, and the third one is heart attack from hearing Jack Bauer is coming for them.
Jack Bauer would have this Burn Notice dude for breakfast.
He wouldn’t even get close to him. The Chin would take him out from 30 feet. With his chin.
(I *loved* those Jack Bauer, though. Nice ones.)
R.A. Porter’s last blog post..FSW: Barista Blues
Probably Entourage or the Sopranos, unlikely either will get started tho.

I just have to say that I really enjoy watching TV shows on DVD (preferably renting/Blockbuster queue, less moola spent). It gives you a chance to watch sans commercials, also you can really dive into storylines and character development, because you don’t forget what has happened from week to week.
If you haven’t done this type of TV watching, try it!
OK, I’m going to have to start talking about Chuck Norris again.
Of course, Michael Westen isn’t the one to watch out for. The one to be careful around is Fiona Glenanne.
Frank C’s last blog post..Office Space Clip: Tom Smykowski Interviews with the Bobs
It’s def nice to be able to crank thru multiple episodes in one sitting w/o commercials, etc. Like TiVo on steroids.

I love Jack Bauer man-love!
ugh – i’m soooo not surprised.
The Trousered Ape’s last blog post..American Idol (2008) – Week 7 – Top 3
haha Frank. I was going to say something about Chuck Norris
There is no chin under Chuck Norris’ Beard. There is only another fist.
nicky’s last blog post..PSA from my belly.
Jack Bauer would seriously OWN Chuck Norris, that much is certain.
Chuck Norris wouldn’t stand a chance against Jack.
Professor Charles Xavier from X-Men once tried to read Jack Bauer’s mind. Now he’s sitting in a wheel chair.
Jack Bauer could strangle Chuck Norris with a cordless phone.
I would agree with jack v. chuck – chuck doesn’t have a chance.
But the real question is…
How much Chuck could a Bauer chuck if a Bauer could chuck Chuck?
The Trousered Ape’s last blog post..American Idol (2008) – Week 7 – Top 3
ROTFL!
From the Chuck Norris Facts website:
“Jack Bauer tried to use his detailed knowledge of torture techniques, but to no avail: Chuck Norris thrives on pain. Chuck Norris then ripped off Jack Bauer’s arm and beat him to death with it. Game, set, match.”
But, don’t worry Mike, there is a Jack Bauer Facts website too.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL “Chuck Norris wouldn’t stand a chance against Jack.

Funniest quote of the day goes to Jason..
whatever!
When Chuck Norris does a pushup, he isn’t lifting himself up, he’s pushing the Earth down.
and don’t even get me started on the superiority of Mr. T!
He could kick all their booties.
nicky’s last blog post..PSA from my belly.
Sadly, the Mr. T Versus comics are probably an April Fools joke, but Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos was real.
R.A. Porter’s last blog post..FSW: Barista Blues
Okay, I can handle the Chuck vs Jack stuff, but Mr. T??? Come on Nicky!!!
@ R.A porter… ok now that was a nice find… who woulda thought ole Chuck had his own line of Kommandos in ink…
Mr. T invented fools. Realizing the magnitude of his folly, he then created Pity.
nicky’s last blog post..PSA from my belly.
@ Mike & Jason (or Mison as I like to call them) – sounds like we need a bracket for this little topic.
Jack Bauer, Mr. T., Michael Weston, James Bond, Jason Bourne, Chuck Norris, Bruce Lee, The Tick, Captain James T. Kirk, etc.
I would limit it to live-action tv shows though – no Mighty Mouse or Underdog allowed.
The Trousered Ape’s last blog post..American Idol (2008) – Week 7 – Top 3
Okay, maybe we’ll start this…I’ll put up a post that starts this off, with nominations on who needs to be in it, then we’ll seed them, set up brackets and start voting.
With The Tick in there, it’s hard to imagine anyone else walking away with this, but if we are looking for live-action hardasses, here are a few more that need to be seeded.
Colt Seavers (The Fall Guy, who could kick the Six Million Dollar Man’s butt)
John Steed
Emma Peel
T.J. Hooker
Robert McCall (The Equalizer)
Buffy Summers
R.A. Porter’s last blog post..Friday Night Sketch War: Round Nine
@ Porter – nice line-up.
The Trousered Ape’s last blog post..American Idol (2008) – Week 7 – Top 3
T.J. Hooker?
How about John McClane from Die Hard?
The Duke brothers – Bo and Luke…
Benjamin Linus and/or Sayid (LOST) – Linus might try to outwit his opponent because he sure can’t fight. However, dude can take a punch.
The Trousered Ape’s last blog post..American Idol (2008) – Week 7 – Top 3
MacGyver can outwit them all.
if it was just tv shows then no james bond, jason bourne or john mcclane. right?
for tv shows, you could also add tony soprano, shaft, and the hulk.
nicky’s last blog post..PSA from my belly.
Come on you gotta toss Captain Kirk in that line up…
Oops. I missed one. Near and dear to many of our hearts.
Kara Thrace.
R.A. Porter’s last blog post..Friday Night Sketch War: Round Nine
I think movies should be allowed – just no animated heroes.
The Trousered Ape’s last blog post..American Idol (2008) – Week 7 – Top 3
@ R.A porter… oh good one….
if we are doing movies then you got to include a Terminator in the mix! Maybe even an Alien and a Predator as well
I think it ought to be limited to people…supernatural beings or robots seems a bit unfair.
I would toss in Hans Solo and Indiana Jones as a couple of others.
The Trousered Ape’s last blog post..American Idol (2008) – Week 7 – Top 3
So like no Superman or Batman then? bummer….
Well then you’d have to toss Bruce Lee into the mix.. and we all know who won between Bruce and Chuck… =) ..oh edit, I see Ape already said Bruce…
I would think Batman is allowed because that is a dude in a costume – like the Tick – but not superman. I don’t know – it was just an idea – I think Mike and/or Jason should lay down the ground rules if we do it (what or who is allowed, etc).
Yeah – I did include Bruce Lee – but how about the Bride and maybe Ash (Bruce Campbell from the Evil Dead).
The Trousered Ape’s last blog post..American Idol (2008) – Week 7 – Top 3
Well Batman would beat them all then =)
you might have to also throw in Gary Coleman from Different Strokes…
Ash: “Lady, I’m going to have to ask you to leave the store.”
ROTFL
Hmmm…
Your arguments are all pointless as Jack Bauer has no equal.
Jack Bauer once forgot where he put his keys. He then spent the next half-hour torturing himself until he gave up the location of the keys. Jack can torture you into giving up information you do not even possess.
Jack Bauer arm once wrestled Superman. The stipulations were the loser had to wear his underwear on the outside of his pants.
When Batman is in trouble, he turns on the Jack Bauer signal.
Seriously, if Jack Bauer was president, he would protect the secret service.
Think about this, there has not been a single terrorist attack in United States since Jack Bauer has appeared on television.
“You don’t know Jack” is a blessing among terrorists.
