Disney Announces Animated Slate of Films Through 2012

If you’re one of those people who just can’t wait until the next Disney animated film comes out then you’re in luck. The Walt Disney Studios unveiled a slate of 10 new animated feature films from Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios to be released through the year 2012 at a New York press conference held yesterday by Dick Cook, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, and John Lasseter, chief creative officer for Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios.

It’s not completely unusual that the studio would know what animated films they have in the pipeline for the next several years as most animated films take several years to complete. It’s slightly unusual for them to make such a public announcement of the line-up.

Looking over the animated film slate a few things stand out.

1. Disney is betting big on 3-D.
2. Disney has high hopes for a new Tinkerbell franchise.
3. Disney is betting big on re-releases and an illogical sequel to Cars.

After hundreds of lonely years doing what he was built for, WALL•E (short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) discovers a new purpose in life (besides collecting knick-knacks) when he meets a sleek search robot named EVE. EVE comes to realize that WALL*E has inadvertently stumbled upon the key to the planet’s future, and races back to space to report her findings to the humans (who have been eagerly awaiting word that it is safe to return home). Meanwhile, WALL•E chases EVE across the galaxy and sets into motion one of the most incredible comedy adventures ever brought to the big screen.

Joining WALL•E on his fantastic journey across a universe of never-before-imagined visions of the future is a hilarious cast of characters including a pet cockroach, and a heroic team of malfunctioning misfit robots.
