Battlestar Galactica: All Along the Watchtower

One of the reasons that Battlestar Galactica hits such a cord with its fans, is the music. Most of the time, you don’t think about the soundtrack of television shows, unless it’s something special. Lost is an example of a great show with some creepy instrumentals.

The main composer for Battlestar Galactica, Bear McCreary (thanks for the heads up R.A. Porter), has his own blog that goes into great detail about each episode’s musical score and why he did it the way he did.

Well, Bear McCreary, along with his brother Brendan, put on a huge concert Sunday called the 2008 Music of Battlestar Galactica. It was at the Roxy Theater in Los Angeles.

I wish I could have been in attendance, it sounds like it was an amazing experience.

One of the main highlights for season 3 for me was the finale of course, and the song All Along the Watchtower, which brings together four of the final five Cylons. It was written and performed originally by Bob Dylan, but has since been covered by U2, Jimi Hendrix, Dave Matthews Band, Prince, The Grateful Dead and now Brendan McCreary.

McCreary wrote his own version of it and it was a spectacular way to close out the season.

It’s pretty great, and I cannot wait to get the soundtrack to last season.

And the Hulu clip…I absolutely love the part when Tigh and Tory walk into the CIC and the music starts with the heavy drums in the background. Talk about chills.
