This is perhaps my favorite bracket so far, and I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s the fact that Lara Croft, Kara Thrace and Sarah Connor could all kick my butt and I’d have ZERO problem with that.
This is the third set of games in Round 1 of Ultimate Bad Ass, which you can read all about on our main page. You can also find a link to our bracket there, plus links to other stuff.
Before you vote below, make sure you have voted in the other Round 1 matchups:
And now…I present the girls:
#1 Ripley versus #8 La femme Nikita
The alien killer against the sexy assassin.
[poll id="12"]
#3 Sydney Bristow versus #6 The Bride
Sidney from Alias, another spy, squares off against The Bride from Kill Bill. Yikes, this would be a brutal fight.
[poll id="13"]
#2 Sarah Connor versus #7 River Tam
The woman who teaches John Connor to fight against the machines, battles the delicate, but super-deadly River Tam from Firefly.
[poll id="14"]
#4 Kara Thrace versus #5 Lara Croft
Kara from BSG is the best Viper pilot in the galaxy, but can also kick some butt with her fists, while Lara Croft is the Indiana Jones of her gender.
[poll id="15"]
Good hunting!
I’m having a tough time choosing between Sydney and The Bride…that may have made a better 4-5 matchup.
The Bride for sure! I was having a tough time figuring out why she was ranked so low. She can do it all – including the always fatal Five-Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique. Seriously – does it get any better than this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Fh2fLPVTO8

Not to mention she took on the Crazy 88′s by herself and then faced O-Ren Ishii and kicked her butt as well…hands down I think she will win the women’s bracket and there are probably several in the mens bracket that she could whip too.

some solid match ups for this bracket.
@Ape – Wow, you are predicting The Bride beats out Ripley too?
I did end up voting for The Bride, like you said…I mean, she was awesome.
The Bride is the biggest bad ass in this bracket and should have been ranked higher. That being said, I did have a tough time choosing between The Bride and Sydney Bristow, but not based on how “bad” their asses are
There’s just something about that Sydney Bristow

Oh yeah, I did vote for The Bride. No way Sydney could kick her ass.

Wow, so I gave her a lower seeding than she deserved…well, that happens I guess. Should be interesting to see a #6 in the finals.
#6 does seem pretty low right now.
I’d like to see the Bride vs Sara Connor, all the rest pale by comparison.

It’s definitely an imperfect science Mike
Happens in the NCAA tournament every year.

@ Scotty – Not sure how Ripley can “pale”…I mean, she single handedly kills like a bazillion aliens, not to mention starring down the mother bug and pumping grenades into her…
She’s pretty bad ass.
@ Mike – yeah, I think the Bride can take on any of the women and probably most of the men in their bracket. She is going to go Ginsu Knife all over the competition…

The problem will come when she’s not as well known as the others, and hence doesn’t get the vote.
Not everyone saw Kill Bill.
@Mike -just because she can fire a weapon, doesn’t make her the baddestass, at least for me. The other two, were good with weapons as well as hand to hand combat. Just my .02.

@ mike – your are correct. Sidney got my vote as I have not seen Kill Bill.
Good point Scotty.
Kory, you should see Kill Bill…at least, the first volume is awesome and action-packed, the second is a bit slower.
Worth it though.
Yeah – watch Kill Bill – both movies. They are both good. I think I actually like the second half a bit better than the first. But overall it is a good movie.

Sidney has some fans…The Bride is in for a fight!
I chose Sydney, she looks strikingly like Electra, so I’m thinking they might be twins at heart, and with that, she would certainly have some mad skillz….
You never see them together do you? Hmmmm

See!!! and I thought it was just me noticing that!!
Ripley has the most resurrections, which has to count for something.
Of course, the Bride brought herself back from the grave, literally.

The difference between Sidney Bristow and The Bride is the difference between network TV and a Quentin Taratino movie. Give them a level playing field and Sidney’s got a shot. Plus, she’s got heart … which for women is a stronger motivation than simply revenge.
a) Starbuck kicked the crap out of a Cylon with her bare hands
b) River Tam slaughtered a roomful of Reavers on her own
I think there’s not enough respect for the space-faring badasses here!

I dont recall Starbuck winning that fight…. River on the other hand..crimany.. cleared a room of em!!
River Tam should take Sarah Connor hands down. Then she’d say something an autistic 12 year might say. Her crazy is better than Sarah Connor’s crazy, which is just an intensity.
I’d be more impressed with Starbuck, but I hate McCauley Caulkin too much. Plus, I get irritated at the Hollywood stereotype version of what they think a badass is, and how they’d fit into the military.
@Robert, in H’wood’s defense regarding Starbuck, she didn’t fit in the military. That’s why despite her prowess with a stick she was relegated to a flying museum. I agree with your overall sentiment, but it’s not like she was considered a “good” soldier before the destruction of the colonies.

River could kill Sarah with her brain…but then John Connor would find out about it, send the River Tam/Summer Glau version of the Terminator back in time to kill River (which would probably be a more interesting match up). That whole time traveling mamma’s boy protective thing kind of takes the fun out of it. But head to head, minus the time travel crap, Sarah doesn’t stand a chance.

Nice one Matt, great line from River.
“I could kill you with my brain.”
Mike – I like how that line got referenced by Adam Baldwin in his new series, Chuck.
