I usually like to do an overall NBC comedy night recap, but when your DVR decides to let one of your dual tuners die, and thus only record Smallville, skipping 30 Rock, then you are in for some trouble. Couple that with a pregnant wife who’s bed times are getting closer and closer to dinnertime, then Scrubs is on too late.
But at least we got to watch The Office last night, which was as hilarious as ever, with a bunch of crazy moments.
Michael is depressed over having broken up with Jan, and is desperate to find a woman so he can have kids before he’s old. But he’s such a pompous, clueless idiot, that Pam’s really nice landlady somehow eludes his tastes.
Yet I think Michael was more distraught over a girl in the office supply catalog that was sitting in a chair he was looking at. He fell in love with her, only to lose her in a matter of hours when Dwight informs him that she’s dead.
He hardly knew her.
Then there is the parking lot situation with a construction company taking up all the spots, thus forcing the employees to walk a half-mile every morning. This is bad for people that sweat, like Kevin, but also an issue if you have penny loafers with loose pennies.
Andy left his phone in the car and had to go all the way back to get it, prompting Phyllis to say “Call us when you get there so we know you’re okay.” Classic.
And to top everything off, we find out suddenly creepy Jim bought an engagement ring for Pam ONE WEEK after they started dating. Is that a bit weird?
But the fakeout at the end was perfect. Jim tells Pam that he’ll be proposing sometime, and when he does, it will kick her ass. So as the episode ends on their walk to the car, he gets down on one knee, looks up at Pam and says, “Hey Pam….will you wait for me one second while I tie my shoe?”
I have to say, he totally fooled me too! And I got fooled again when Michael and Dwight visit the graveyard. I don’t know why, you can call me an idiot (and Jina missed it too) but I didn’t connect the dead chairlady with the graveyard. I was thinking somehow Jan died between episodes which would have been insane!
Anyone else but me think the hopping from gravestone to gravestone by Dwight was hilarious?
Two moments killed me tonight though. The first was when Michael was set up with “Wendy” and called a Wendy’s…I was dying.
And finally, Creed wins the night with the greatest line that makes no sense:
“When Pam gets MIchael’s old chair, I get Pam’s old chair…then I’ll have two chairs. Only one to go.”
Here’s the clip:
What the frak is he going to do with those chairs???
So what was your favorite part of the episode? Favorite quotes?
I loved the Creed quote and the Wendy’s bit, especially the end of the conversation:
“I’ll have a frosty and a baked potato.”
“You have to come here to get them.”
“OK, when will they be ready?
“They’re ready.”
Did anyone catch the date on the tombstone? I thought it read 2003, which means that not only is Michael mourning someone he never even knew, but that she also died five years ago.

“They’re ready.”
That was too freaking funny…this show continues to be hilarious.
I also loved it when Michael showed Pam’s landlady Jan’s picture and accidentally called her.

Another classic! Michael and Dwight singing at the end was great.
… “and thus only record Smallville, “… Hey, at least it recorded the right one!
Man what an episode!
Reliving the episode through your article made me laugh all over again. I LOVED that he got set up with the hot and spicy red head named Wendy. One of my favorite parts was when the nice landlady asked him if he was Michael and he quickly said no…Then the barista calls out for him to pick up his coffee, and the end up just staring at each other…Classic!
The barista part was friggin’ funny…
Excellent sum up of all the truly classic parts, Mike.
As for the blind date, Michael wore a rose on his lapel to meet his mystery woman – so completely Hollywood of him. Yet still he denies it.
What about the five families of Scranton’s office park… or Michael’s homophobic comment to Oscar!
Okay one more – Andy’s speech…
“I did this for the little guy. For Joe Six-Pack. The guy who wakes up every morning in his $400-a-month apartment. Wonders how he’s gonna pay his mortgage that month. Wonders how he’s gonna fill his car up with oil. Wonders how I’m gonna pay my kid’s orphanage bills. That guy shouldn’t have to wonder where he’s going to park.”
Michael’s homophobic comment is already our new quote up in the top right
You gotta love Andy! Tracy and I were also cracking up with the fake out on the engagement. Their on screen chemistry is awesome.
‘Oscar Meyer wiener lover’ is an instant classic. I also loved ‘Wendy, who’s hot and juicy’. I totally nailed that one as soon as I heard it. Almost any line from Creed is a wtf moment.
As for it being creepy that Jim bought the engagement ring in week one. I read it more as he’d been in love with her forever and knew he couldn’t let her get away. Very romantic. Jim and Pam are one of the best TV couples ever!

That’s how I saw it too. Very romantic. He’s been waiting for her for so long I’m surprised he didn’t already have one. They’ve got great chemistry.
Gotta go with Scotty and Ana on the Jim question. Didn’t really think it was creepy. I thought it was right in line with his character being in love with her since day one.
Yeah, it does go with his character, but even my wife was like…”He bought it that fast, and CARRIES it with him all the time?”
Still, I do love them
Insta-classic episode last night, although not as funny as the previous week. Still – hilarious.
The Wendy’s phone call was priceless as was the guy calling for Michael to pick up his coffee with Pam’s landlady sitting there.
I agree that any comment by Creed is just out there – that guy is trippy.

Creed needs the chairs to build a bed. Remember, he lives in the office and travels up to Canada to get free health care.

What?! I don’t remember that! LOL!
Thanks jina for Andy’s little guy speech. Exactly what I was looking for.
