Summit Entertainment has snapped up the rights to a sci-fi action thriller called Arena which was written by Toby Wagstaff and Darren Howell.
According to Variety the story of Arena centers on a group of modern-day soldiers who are mysteriously transported from the thick of battle to a terrain-shifting landscape where they must fight the best warriors of all different eras and histories in a gladiatorial fight to the death — or be killed by the all-powerful operators of the “Arena.”
I wonder if anyone’s been checking out our Ultimate Bad Ass contest for ideas? It kind of sounds like an episode of “Star Trek” I saw once. I think I also read a sci-fi book with a similar premise although the title escapes me now. At any rate, it sounds like it could be a pretty cool movie. You have to wonder if the warriors will have weapons or if they’ll have to use strategy or what the deal will be. Soldiers with M16s against gladiators probably isn’t a fair fight.
There’s not a lot of details yet, but we’ll keep you informed.
Yeah, its where Capn Kirk beat up on a Gorn….he even uses a double clasp fist shot..
I would think it couldnt include technology otherwise the most recent would win. they will probably have to rely on their smarts and hand to hand skills….
Could be cool…too bad it wont be an ultimate badd ass tourny we are familiar with…actors have to much pride for it to be any named ones we know…
