Great, great post guys. That’s all. Just felt compelled to let you know. :-)

I gave him my picks, but Jason did all the work in regards to the monthly breakdowns, and I have to agree with Steven, I’m impressed :)

We’ll have to revisit this at the end of August or so…I want to see how my Pineapple Express pick turns out :)

  3. Steven

I think you may be on the right track with Pineapple Express.

My top three guesses are (in no particular order, because I’m not a pro like you two):

    Indiana Jones
    Dark Knight
    Wall-E (for the kiddies)

  5. Cap'n Schwartz

    First off, GREAT POST!!!

    Secondly, EW is whacked….

Thirdly, Mo is whacked, no way pineapple express makes top 10 this summer, no way…

I mostly align with Jasons picks, however, disagree with the Ironman suggesstion of “I don’t think this movie is going to be as big as the fans think it’s going to be.” but I’m highly impressed you put this to gross higher than The Dark Knight…i also think theres no chance Prince caspian beats out Drak Knight and Ironman for money grosser spot…

Interesting niether of you had X-files in top 10, which is probably accurate, but should rake in more than pineapple express…(Mo what are you thinkin’) :)

  6. Mike

@ Cap’n, I’m pretty sure X-Files wont even make $100 million…I just have a hunch. I think the last one didn’t even do that great.

Pineapple Express is going to be huge and funny I think, potheads will go out in droves and see it more than once.

    @ Jina – Solid picks.

  7. Jason

Thanks for all the great comments.

    A couple of things:

I didn’t mention in the article that Pineapple Express is Rated-R which is why I think it will have a harder time making the top 10 list. However, I saw this morning that the tracking for Speed Racer isn’t very good which means it might not do well either…

The X-Files didn’t make my list because the first movie, which came out in 1998 at the height of the TV shows popularity, only grossed $83.9M (adjusted for inflation is $108M). That doesn’t give me hope that this film is top ten material. Sadly, Pineapple Express will probably do a lot more.

  8. Mike

Man, I was about to say I thought it made $80+ million, I knew I was close.

  9. Cap'n Schwartz

Mo, lunch bet says X-files grosses more than Pineapple Express…

  10. Ana

I’ll just go see whatever Jason tells me to see. He’s more involved. :) As long as we see Indiana Jones, Wall-E, Hancock, Prince Caspian, and the Dark Knight. :)

  11. Cap'n Schwartz

@AnaDVR perhaps you didnt see the program recording note, since Jason is not feeling well Friday, he wants you to go see Ironman and take notes… ;)

  12. Jason

@Ana – But whatever I want to see, right?

  13. AnaDVR

    Right.

  14. Cap'n Schwartz

LOLOLOLO AnaDVR..LOLOLOL you guys (and girls) are on a roll today…

  15. Kory

I am with Mike on his Dark Knight prediction. I think it will be top 3 for the summer with Indy taking the top spot.

Jason, you are correct, Speed Racer is picking up a kid following. The winning cars at my son’s scout district pinewood derby show car competition were Speed Racer based. Ours, based on Racer X’s car, came in 5th. The winning car was a very nicely carved and painted Speed Racer car.

As for the Mummy movie, no Rachel Weisz spells dud in my book.

I don’t know about you guys, but the Movie lineup for the summer is looking really good. I want to see almost every move listed, and I can’t remember when that has ever happened. This is really exciting, but until I saw the lists, I didn’t realize it.

I have to agree. There are a lot of movies I would like to see this summer. More so than normal I think. There’s one I’m INCREDIBLY pumped about, of course, and several that I’m excited about. Even more that I’d rather see in the theater than DVD which, these days, is really saying something for me.

  19. Raven Spinner

Yes, that is how I feel. I used to be a person who went to the theater on opening night of whatever movie I wanted to see or at least opening week. Or we always did dinner and a movie, but now you can hardly catch me in a theater ever, but this line up of films for the summer has me “thinking” about venturing back to the actual theater. The problem for me is the rudeness. If the person next you isn’t coughing on you, making you afraid you will catch their cold, then it is the people who brought their new born baby to the movie with them and it cried the entire time, which is completely inappropriate. Then the parents get upset when you ask them to leave, like YOU are the rude person for asking them to leave. Sometimes you get the ones that won’t stop talking and spoil the movie or get up to go to the bathroom or get snacks 5 times during a movie. I have had all these things happen to me and just ruin a movie I paid $8 to see and I could go on and on. Where are the manners? Seriously, I worry about our country when you can’t even go to a movie and have a positive experience. It is sad. There should be rules.

    1. if you are sick, don’t go to the movie and infect everyone else by coughing on them. 2. If you have a new born, face it, you shouldn’t take them to the movie with you besides the fact that the sound equipment is completely damaging to a baby’s ears. 3. If you need a snack, get it before the movie. 4. Use the bathroom before the movie starts.

Good rule of thumb is to go to a movie early in the day, the earliest show you can…usually you don’t get a lot of idiots.

Of course, with these summer blockbusters…they’ll be crowded anyways.

  21. Jason

@Raven – Yeah, I have to agree with you. As much as I love movies, we have yet to take my daughter and she’s eleven months old. No one at my job can understand why, but they are the people who pissed me off so much before my child was born.

  22. Cap'n Schwartz

Interesting to see how these results are breaking down… whos closer, Jason or Mike?

  23. Jason

Off the top of my head, I’d say Jason. :)

  24. Mike

It must have been off the top, because you are sucking so far if you actually go look :)

  25. Jason

I don’t need to look. I know in my heart that I’m doing well.

I wanted to comment regarding this part of your article: “Hancock – Will Smith + superhero + comedy = goldmine.” In Hollywood there are the mortals, and then the is Will Smith, able to play any role in any genre, and appeal to any viewer. Perhaps it should be “Will Smith + anything = goldmine”.

    Porsche 911 is the best show car that i know, it is pretty expensive too:*;
