I’m actually kind of excited about this, because I’m a big Jimmy Fallon fan.
According to numerous sources, Fallon will be taking over Late Night from Conan O’Brien in 2009.
O’Brien, as you may know, will be moving into Jay Leno’s spot on The Tonight Show in 2009, and there has been much speculation on who would succeed O’Brien.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, NBC is expected to make an official announcement on May 12th. The switchover is suggested to happen sometime in January.
One funny bit from this though, again from the Hollywood Reporter:
The move further cements NBC’s late-night transition that also is making Leno a highly sought-after free agent, with ABC and Fox reportedly already circling the top-rated late-night host. Meanwhile, NBC Universal is trying to keep him in the company fold with a new show.
For some reason, I find Leno being a “sough after” free agent crazy. I don’t know what he’d do afterwards, and if he was so awesome now, wouldn’t he be sticking around?
I’ve never liked Leno as I’ve said a few times here, so other networks “circling” the guy makes zero sense.
Anyways, what do you think of Fallon? Will he make a good host?
He’s sought after soley because he or his show or people staying watching nbc latenight, or they alweays have, but Leno is always #1, so everyone would want that. ABC is even talking of displacing Jimmy Kimmel to get Leno… soley because they are chasing the #1 rating. Conan will get the #1 rating and he’ll keep it, regarless if Leno goes against him or not, its peoples habit to watch that as late night (this was a report on NPR at one time, why does Leno beat Letterman all the time).
Fallon will be great in Conans slot and a great replacement. He’s funny funny….
I hardly ever watched Conan, but I think he’s funny. Hopefully I’ll catch more of him when Leno’s gone (which can’t be soon enough).
As for Fallon, I can take him or leave him, most likely leave him at his new late hour. I suspect most will do the same and he’ll be gone inside a year. You heard it here first.

I rarely catch Conan, but when I do, it is usually pretty good. Will be nice to see him take Leno’s spot.
As for Fallon, never really been much of a fan..

I like Letterman the best and then Conan.
