All the signs are pointing towards a successful opening for Iron Man. The reviews I’m hearing so far have been pretty great and I for one cannot wait to see it on Friday.
And as word grows that it might be a huge addition to the superhero genre, the more talk escapes from Jon Favreau’s lips about the possibility of an Iron Man trilogy.
And from what it sounds like, he isn’t just planning two more movies. He has big ideas to make it work more as an overall story arch.
Here are some exceprts from an IGN story about his thoughts of sequel (Potential spoilers below!):
“I thought about it,” he says. “I have one, two, and three in my head, because if you don’t then it seems like you’re just re-treading the same ground. No, the way the Mandarin fits in, the way War Machine fits in, whether or not Obadiah [Stane] pops up again… There’s a lot. The relationship of Pepper. So we’re really thinking and I’m watching the horizon as I do these movies so that it all makes sense as you watch them altogether. I mean, look at how well Lord of the Rings works. It builds to a climax, compared to movies where it just feels like you’re redoing the same thing over and over again to diminishing returns.”
“There is no second one yet,” says the helmer. “Part of what they do when they do an actor’s deal is they sign you on for many because it can get very expensive. For director they don’t see the need because they can make the movie with or without you. I would love to do a sequel to it and I think that depending on the success of the film… You know, we made over a hundred million dollars on Daredevil and were getting fairly good reviews. And I thought we were off to the races but then quickly I was told, ‘No, it wasn’t successful and it didn’t make enough money and the fans don’t think it’s that good of a movie.’ So I don’t take anything for granted now after having been through that experience.”
“If there’s no hold-up on my end, I would love to do it,” he says. “But they’ve got to look at how well the movie does and how they approach the second one. And … Marvel is a new company. At this point with Sony, with the first Spider-Man, they were already working on a script, so I don’t know what they’re thinking at Marvel. I think they’ve got their hands full with the Hulk, to be honest. They’ve got another big movie coming out that’s going to really speak to their bottom line and they’re very hands-on and it’s a small team. I know I speak to people at Marvel everyday and they’re very excited about this. They think it’s going to do well, and I know that they really want to make another one, so hopefully we’ll be talking again here about number two in a couple of years.”

EVERYONE LOGOFF AND LETS ALL GO GET IN LINE NOW!!! IF I COULD TYPE ANY BIGGER I WOULD!! The movie previews for this simply RAWK. It just looks like its going to be THE Superhero movie we have been waiting for.
I’m JACKED (Bauer even!!) to see this movie….
In Phx, the Cina Capri has a seat with my name on it this weekend!!!!
I wish I could say that I’m completely stoked to see this movie, but I’m just not. I want to see it. I think it’ll be good. I just don’t know if it’ll be quite as good as everyone’s building it up to be. I don’t know if it can be that good.
I wonder if the Cap’n is going to see it… he’s just so wishy-washy and totally hard to read on this one.
Actually, I didn’t really care that much about it but hearing some critics’ reviews of the movie got my interest.
As for Favreau… “Mikey wins… Mikey’s the big winner! You’re so money, and you don’t even know it.”
@Jason G A S P !!!!!! You did NOT just say that… take it back, TAKE IT BACK!!! Dude… go see this movie… if it doesnt RAWK, I will mail you the money you paid for your tkt…hows that for a deal?
@Jina..lol… yeah dont you wish I’d come right out and say how I feel?!?!?
Cap’n, you are so cryptic!
Jason’s like that when he’s talking about Bauer. I can never tell how he really feels.
I just got tickets to see a special Thursday night 8:00 p.m. showing…… I cant wait…..I’ll need to set my Ana DVR to record Smallville though so I dont miss it!!
Its gonna be BIG!!!!…
Awesome man!
I think Ana’s recording something else at that time, Cap’n. But I think your enthusiasm might have convinced me to go see Iron Man after all…that and the money back guarantee.
What is the definition of “RAWK” though? You keep saying that word…I don’t think it means what you think it means…
Oh yeah, I’m getting a receipt for my snacks too.
Woo Hoo!!! Hi5 to Jason… that-a-boy way to step in there!!! RAWK means its superb, excellent, just awesomeness in all of its glory where you would recommend it to others to go see and in fact would see it again yourself. The only analogy I could make is it would be as superb as a written article on pop ciritcs… thats what RAWKS means
P.S Ana needs to clone her self then or get another line attached to her to record multiple channels at once!
Two Ana’s, eh? Hmm… Don’t know if I can handle more than one. Not sure how I feel about her getting another line attached. I think they call that “split personalities.”
You’ve kind of built up the definition of “RAWK” to a level that will be hard for any movie to attain. I mean, as good as an article on Pop Critics? Let’s not get crazy.
I’m doing what now?
LOL split personalities…lolol… but like a McDonalds in my basement…. it could happen…
Mmm…McDonalds! … No! No! It’s bad for you! Eat an apple! …
I wonder if Ole Jon knew he might not be signed to a 3 movie deal when he started talking about a trilogy of these =( stoopid Marvel…
