I know a lot of you may be going, Grava-what?
Well, there are things called Avatars, which are little pictoral representations of yourself that you use all over the web, be it Facebook, MySpace, forums, etc. Even right here.
We’ve been using MyBlogLog avatars for awhile, but a few of you have run into problems getting them to work correctly or even show up here.
But we’re switching to Gravatar today, which is a much easier and more popular way to control your various Avatars around the net. If you set one up here, you can use it on a ton of other social websites.
This means that a lot of the Avatars some of you had set up for this site wont work anymore. But it’s a quick fix, and one that will be fun if you keep reading all the way to the bottom of this article.
How to get your Gravatar:
- Go to http://en.gravatar.com/site/signup
- Sign up with the email address you USE HERE when you comment (important!)
- Do whatever comes next: usually you confirm the email address and then upload an image.
So the big thing is to make sure you use the email address that you comment with on Pop Critics. Once you do that, all your comments should switch over to your new Avatar!
Now, why is this going to be fun?
Next Wednesday, Jason and I are going to judge which of you has THE BEST AVATAR.
This little contest will last for a few days and require you to comment on the post with the reason you picked the Avatar.
Once the contest closes, Jason and I will check them all out and post the winner a bit later.
The prize? At the moment, it’s respect and an entire blog post dedicated to you and your geeky little Avatar.

Just for info purposes, I think Gravatar uses 50×50 pics. I’m not sure what size we were using before but I think they were 48×48 so there’s a little bit of a difference. Mine is a little fuzzy. Looks like I might have to do a new one.

LOL… it tells me to use lower case letters and number only. I AM!!! I clicke don help i verified passweord and iut said “Merge failed, unable to fetch user, please try again” lol… I swear it hates me…

So the upside is i can go back to my original avatar that Mybloglog forced me to change when they merged with Yahoo. Damn that Yahoo.

@Mike/@Scott, I think you need to merge your avatars together into one Mega-Avatar. Spiky, soul patch, straw. Sort of like Power Rangers.
