While we’ve known it for awhile, the rumors are true now. Lex Luthor is leaving Smallville.
Michael Rosenbaum, who plays Lex on the CW’s Smallville, released a letter to the fans thanking them for their support over the many years the show has run.
Dear Smallville Fans,
Well, it’s been seven wonderful years. Your support is what has made Smallville so successful, and I appreciate you all more than you know.
That being said, it is time for me to start the next chapter of my life and career. I hope that I gave you some enjoyment over the years, and that you found my portrayal of Lex Luthor to be satisfying. I am truly grateful, as Smallville fans are the best fans out there. I sincerely hope that you will continue to follow my career through my hair growth period and beyond.
I’m very excited about what the future holds, but certainly, Smallville will always be a part of me. I will definitely miss the greatest crew in the world, and the wonderful cast that has been like a family to me.
Thank you Al and Miles for creating the show. Thank you writers, producers, directors and editors. Thanks Tollin, Robbins and Davola for being there for the pilot. Thank you Peter Roth for employing me for ten years. Lisa Lewis, I miss you already. John Glover, thanks for helping me feel more comfortable touching other actors, while acting. Bizarre, but helpful.
Mostly, I want to thank Greg Beeman for directing the “Oh Sherry” video, by Steve Perry, back in the 80′s.

Pretty funny line about following him during his hair growth period. I’ve always found it weird when I’ve seen Rosenbaum without the bald look.
It’s going to be a bummer not to have him on the show next year. He’s consistently been one of the better characters amidst some real lame ones (Lana – who is also leaving – woo!) and getting rid of Clark’s number one enemy is going to be weird.
But the CW has plans for next season, including two new villains:
“In season eight, Clark [Tom Welling] will face his ultimate challenge with the appearance of the legendary, unstoppable destroyer Doomsday, who appears on Smallville for the first time. As comic-book fans know, Doomsday is notorious for being the only character in the DC Comics universe to have killed Superman.”
The network added: “Doomsday won’t be Clark’s only nemesis in the upcoming season. The executive producers are tight-lipped about a new female villain they will be introducing, but they can say she will be familiar to many fans and will set her sights on Clark in ways Lex never could. Intelligent, brilliantly manipulative and dangerously sinister, our gorgeous new villain has one more weapon in her arsenal: Her mutual attraction with Clark may prove to be as deadly as kryptonite for him.”
Sounds exciting.
But my only hope is that when he faces Doomsday and this hot chick, that Clark isn’t looking like an idiot his blue jacket and red shirt.
Perhaps learn to fly in the offseason? Please?
Superman can’t fly in Smallville?

The whole motto of the creators at the beginning of the show was “no tights, no flights” or something like that.

Yeah but with Mile and al gone that might very well be out the window. how silly is it they would intrOduce Doomsday onto the scene when he isnt even fully Superman yet…. this show takes some serious liberties….. it would make a ton morE sense to intro DarkSeid, but what do I know….wait a minute..THE CAPN KNOWS HEROS THATS WHAT HE KNOWS!!!
This really sad since no more mr. “little evil” in Smallville. I know that he is doing quite well on his part, make me hate him very well. I wish to see clark be a ‘real superman’ soon.

Doomsday should be left in the comics or featured in the next Superman movie on the big screen. Plenty of other characters in the DC universe to bring in…
How can they have Smallville without Lex???? He is like the best character. I know, you can have other bad guys, but none will take the place of Lex on the show. I love the dynamic between Clark and Lex. How unfortunate. Didn’t they also loose the original creaters of the show this year? I think they should wrap it up, althought I am a big fan and I hate to see a good thing end, but I like a good ending rather then a bad one. This show deserves a very good ending.

In my opinion, Clark Kent is very stupid, idiot and self-righteous.
