We’ve got the first image of this week’s edition of Entertainment Weekly featuring Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Banks as George W. Bush and Laura Bush in Oliver Stone’s upcoming Bush biopic W.
I’m a little bit taken aback by how much Josh Brolin actually looks like George in this picture. I mean, he doesn’t really look like George, but he looks more like George than I would have thought Josh Brolin could have looked like George. Can’t say the same for Laura, though.
The movie itself is being directed by Bush hater Oliver Stone and, supposedly, will chronicle the life and presidency of the 43rd President of the United States of America. Bush is reportedly portrayed in the film as a foul-mouthed, reformed drunk obsessed with baseball, Saddam Hussein and the conflicted relationship with his dad.
I can’t imagine this film being anything other than awful.
The rest of the cast includes Thandie Newton as National Security Advisor turned secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Ioan Gruffudd as Tony Blair, Rob Corddry as Ari Fleischer, James Cromwell as George Herbert Walker Bush, Ellen Burstyn as Barbara Bush and Jeffrey Wright as General Colin Powell.
Stone plans to release the film in November in the hopes of effecting the Presidential elections.
Well, he doesn’t like a whole heck of a lot like Bush, but I sure never would have guessed that’s Josh Brolin under there, either.
Being by Stone, this is going to be pretty heavily opinionated and preachy. That said, Bush has earned a heck of a lot of his bashings, too. I’ll be sure to miss this one.
This movie could be interesting esp when covering ‘W’ the early years. I’d have preferred that they wait awhile before making it, but Stone may have an axe to grind.

I’m with you Scott… it seems way to early to make a movie on Bush. It almost guarantees a certain lack of historical perspective.
Considering this is by Stone, I am not shocked it is coming out now. No need to wait since Bush’s ratings are in the toilet.
Stone is almost as far to the left as michael moron moore.

@ Jason – the film probably will be awful but you know Hollywood will love it. Not too mention, the media will most likely give it a ton of press.
Well, you’re absolutely right, Kory. Hollywood will eat it up and probably give it tons of awards and the press will talk about how it’s one of the best movies of the year…and they’ll all wonder why the American public doesn’t go see it when it comes out.
Not saying that Stone won’t slant the portrayal to fit his needs, but isn’t Bush a reformed drunk and partier who was obsessed with Saddam Hussein and baseball and who has a conflicted relationship with his father? Seems like an accurate description to me based on everything I’ve read about the man. We also have video of his foul mouth and flipping off a camera before an interview. That said, I am sure Stone will turn it up to 11.

And he does look a lot like President Bush. Wow. I think Elizabeth Banks looks a little like Mrs. Bush as well.

Steven, it might be one, but man, coming out with it BEFORE he’s even out of office is obviously intentionally meant to be hurtful I think.
I don’t disagree with you at all. I’m just saying that, based on what I’ve read about the man, that description, while incomplete I’m sure, sounds accurate with regard to certain aspects.
