Rumors of backstage meddling and interference on American Idol by David Archuleta’s father, Jeff Archuleta, has been circulating for a few weeks now. I haven’t reported it because there was no way to confirm whether or not the rumors were true. However, we now know that at least some of the rumors must be true because the producers of American Idol have banned Jeff Archuleta from rehearsals according to a person working for the show.
The person familiar with the matter told the Associated Press that the producers informed Jeff Archuleta this week that he can no longer join his 17-year-old son at the rehearsal as David prepares for the show. The person from American Idol who spoke to the press was not authorized to comment publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.
Jeff Archuleta’s intense and growing backstage involvement had become a constant source of concern for the series according to the informant, but it was a lyric change on Tuesday’s show that pushed the producers over the edge and forced a change.
Despite a warning from producers, Jeff Archuleta insisted on altering the lyrics to “Stand By Me,” which was one of two songs David sang on the show Tuesday. Jeff apparently added a verse from Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls,” and David sang it on the show which resulted in additional costs for American Idol.
Neither American Idol nor Jeff Archuleta commented on the report to the media. David Archuleta will be appearing with David Cook and Syesha Mercado in the final three show this week. He is currently the favorite to win.

I hate this season anyways…I just really do not care who wins.
Sadly David A will probably win and I don’t think it will be close, then he can have his one hit record and then fade into obscurity.
Meanwhile, we are 99% sure this is our last AI season. This one is far and away the worst yet. Between Paula’s bizarre antics and lapses in coherency to the overall mediocre talent, I’m just done. They keep telling us this was the most talented group yet, I’m far from convinced. David A, who is the likely winner, is probably less talented than Taylor Hicks. If he didn’t look and sound like a lost member of some boy band he would have been gone a long time ago. Take the title and your lameass dad and go…please.

yeah, Adrian and I are seriously considering being done too. this is by far the lamest season with the exception of david cook. but if they do some serious changes to the format then i will give it another chance, b/c i am weak like that!
poor david a. is a little daddy robot, i really feel for him. i can’t imagine what it would feel like to be one of those stage kids your whole life. poor guy!

His dad is the main issue and the fact that Archuleta has become mediocre is the rest of the issue…
Plus, I’m not so sure I buy the “young age” argument any more because there have been other young, unexperienced performers on the show who have done exceptionally well and better than Archuleta. So, the fact that he is 17 does not cut it as a valid strike against in my opinion.
I’m curious about the arrogant twit comment as well…who the heck are you talking to?
I love people who fall in love with these contestants and go around the net ripping people who have an opinion on them.
That kind of weird obsession freaks me out.

That’s funny that he cost the show money. *Shakes head* The worst part is that David did it even though the producers told him not too. Sounds like Daddy has a little TOO much control.
Well, I think the boy is great. He can sing anything. I think his dad is trying to live a dream through his son. But eventually the apron string will be cut and David will move on the great things.
