Despite all the fun movies coming out this summer and fall, I think The Road might be the one I’m looking forward to the most in 2008. It’s being released on November 26th.
I’ve been waiting and waiting for some sort of trailer or image to come from the studio and the first photo is finally here thanks to Row Three.
The picture has Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee, who play the Father and Son in the story, both of which are never given names by author Cormac McCarthy who wrote the book. The cast has grown, and I had no idea Robert Duvall was involved with this now, but I guess it’s just a rumor according to IMDB. He joins Charlize Theron as the Wife and Guy Pearce as The Veteran, along with a bunch of other costars. Duvall would play the Old Man.
John Hillcoat is directing, and with his previous film being the critically acclaimed The Proposition, I have high hopes here.
I’m so excited for this movie. You have no idea how that book impacted me personally. It was so amazingly written, so bleak and dark, it was an inspiration to me as a writer. I wrote a short story and started a long novel because of it.
The photo below is fantastic, almost exactly how I would picture these two characters in this post-apocalyptic world.
With it arriving late in the year, I’m curious to see what kind of Oscar buzz it will receive.
Enjoy!

They look like they’ve seen better days!
This is one of my favorite books. Now that you are a father read it again. Unlike Lost this book made me tear up. Viggo kicks and is a great choice for this role. I hope they don’t change the book. Gaaaah I want to talk about the book but don’t want to ruin it for others.

I am pretty sure I teared up as well…
@Dado -you are so right. This is an amazing book, I hope the movie does it justice.
So far I love the casting choices, Viggo is a great choice for the dad.

“Man oh Man” , I’ve been waiting for this movie for some time. The book was awesome and put reading it off for some time, because once i started i knew would not be able to put it down. One of my fav’s of all time! the only bad thing is looking forward to it because once November rolls around………well you know.
Good stuff Marvin, going to be fun watching it in November
This book has been the “next to read” on my list for a while now and I still haven’t done it. I guess I’d better get to it.
That’s a great picture. I hope the movie lives up to y’all expectations.
Me too Ana…me too.
@Jason -put down whatever you’re doing and go start reading The Road, it’s that good. All this talk makes me want to read it again before the movie comes out.
