This should be an interesting debate here, because I know there were some of us that really did like the latest Superman movie, Superman Returns, with Brandon Routh, and some of us who thought it sucked big time (me).
There is a site out there that is gaining momentum and being talked about more and more, and it’s called SaveSuperman.com. Their mission:
SaveSuperman.com is a place for fans to come together as a unified group and be able to send a long overdue message to those who run Warner Bros Entertainment. Marvel has proven time and again that it is completely possible to turn a comic book into a film that both comic fans and the general public can enjoy. DC Comics has many heroes, not just Superman, that can be enjoyed the same way. For some unknown reason, Warner Bros just hasn’t figured out how to do it yet. But never fear, help is finally here.
Their main goal, obviously, is to get Warner Brothers to wake up and do something GOOD with the franchise like has been done with Batman, Spiderman and now Iron Man. And I have to agree with that. The latest Superman was just so-so for me, boring and Routh just didn’t do it for me. He certainly looked the part, but lacked…something.
SaveSuperman has a petition that you can all sign if you want to see Warner make a change. They are also doing Operation: Stop the Monkey Business where you can send a monkey to the main guys at Warner Brothers to really make them feel the impact of the fans’ voices.
The only part I’m not in total agreement with these guys on is that they are backing the Smallville fans who want Tom Welling to play Superman in the next movie or in a Justice League film.
I love him in Smallville, but I just don’t know if he can command the big screen. Of course, he can’t be any worse than Routh.
So what do you guys think? Do you join their effort to help Save Superman? Or is Routh and the current path Warner Brothers is on, fine for you?

First off… Nerd on!!
Secondly…I just LOOOOVE all the hero talk lately!!
Hi5 to you and Jason covering it all!!
Thirdly.. “and some of us who thought it sucked big time (me)…” yeah but you liked the Queen too…
(thats a joke, seriously, I’m ribbin ya..honest
Again I’m surprised you didnt like Superman Returns more, as it was more of a chick flick (the Lois Lane story) than it was a ‘Superman is back, move out of the way story’…
Bryan Singer can do great things (X-Men 1-2), I think he was trying to appeal to all audiences as well, and for some reason ensure the recap of who Superman is in order to reintroduce him to audiences (we all know who he is around the world), which made for a slower movie (WB insisted on this, and was why the scripts were rewritten many a time).
I really enjoyed the movie (but I also like most hero movies, excluding Ghost Rider and Daredevil), maybe more so because I’m such a nerd and wanted it to be really great. This is where Ironman really outshines it, by having a great story, super director who connected with what the fans wanted, an awesome actor who nailed the charecter, and a throw down hero with cool actiony parts. Superman Returns missed these items (though saving the plane was cool, but what else??). Bryan Singer does say the next Supes movie will be about an angry god.. so who knows, will it be the throw down awesomeness we all want to see from a guy who can bring it (Superman), or will it be more avg WB drizzle (look at Smallville this season, on second thought, don’t).
Tom Welling is Super (ha, get it!!) as Clark Kent. Could he make the transition to a veteran Superman… maybe. For the Justice League movie since they are doing origins of the group, it would be nice if he was the guy since hes new to it all. But Routh didnt do a bad job (though the suit redesign in Superman Returns wasnt necessary). Was Superman returns good? In my useless opinion yes… Could it have been more? Ironman proves it could have been… Should Singer and Routh be given another chance? The Capn says yes… let em bring it, lets see if they can set a new bar of hero performance movies…
Well, the last Superman film stunk. Yeah, I said it. It wasn’t as bad as Ghost Rider, but it didn’t come anywhere near close to saving Superman or reinventing Superman or bringing Superman back. They can do another film (I like Bryan Singer and Routhe was okay), but it won’t make much difference if people don’t go see the movie…and right now I have my doubts they will.
I’ve always thought it would be great to get Tom Welling to make the transition to Superman. I thought they should have waited for Smallville to end before making Superman Returns. I think Tom Welling has a great screen presence and with a little tweaking, he could totally command the attention and respect of everyone around him.
Adams last blog post..The 50 State Quiz
I think more people would pay to see Tom Welling as Supes than Brandon Routh again…
Superman is like the Tim Duncan of the Comic Book world. The Big Fundamental.

People throw around the “It was meant to be a chick flick” excuse for why SR was so underwhelming. That’s pure BS. I am a chick and that was no chick flick. Where was this supposed romance? Did one “I love you.” get said by anybody in the film? Did Lois end up with Superman? Did Lois flirt with Superman at any time during the film? No, no, and no. Lois and Superman were as cold as ice. There was no chemistry, no romance, no flirtation, nothing.
The “It was a chick flick” excuse is pretty simply a lie. As a chick, I wouldn’t have minded a chick flick take on Superman, like the Terri Hatcher and Dean Cain version, but that isn’t what we got. “Superman Returns” failed as an action film, failed as a chick flick, and simply failed all around.
At this point, I’d rather see a reboot.
You go Nikki, good stuff
That’s exactly what I think.
Superman Returns was a HUGE waste of money and MY TIME. People who defend this film are out to lunch. I hated it. A complete let down.
Man is this sandwhich GOOD!!! oh and btw, Superman Returns RAWKED!!! Want a bite of my sandwhich?
I totally agree with this website and the fact that they are supporting the TRUE Superman of this generation – Tom Welling.
It’s as simple as this: you can’t make a Superman film without Superman. And Tom Welling IS Superman !
It’s high time that Warner Bros. listens to the fans and get Welling cast as Superman and both JLA and a new Superman movie.
If they want to get competitive and rival with Marvel, this is the only way to do it. Get Welling, a true Superman suit (not that disaster in maroon), a good director and an epic script filled with great action and also great story/dialogue.
And you get yourselves a big hit like Iron Man.
