Wow, this sucks. I mean, I know PG-13 movies these days can still get away with a few things, but that doesn’t mean you downgrade from an R-rating just because you can get more kiddies in your seats.
But the minds behind the Terminator 4 sequel are doing just that.
Variety is reporting that the producers from Halcyon CO. are aiming for a PG-13 rating when they deliver the finished product to Warner Brothers.
Ick.
“The ratings have changed,” said Halcyon co-founder and co-CEO Victor Kubicek, a broker-turned-writer-producer. “The PG-13 has increased in intensity.”
I don’t buy it really. Not only does it not give us the raw potential that an R-rating does, but it also allows in those kids who will talk during the entire thing.
“Daddy, that robot isn’t very scary and no one says the f-word.”
“I know son,” sighs the dad. “I know.”
Now, of course the Die Hard sequel last summer went with a PG-13 rating as well, and it grossed obscene dollars at the box office.
Still, the muffling of the final John McClane victory cry, “Yippee kay ya mutha fmlkmsdojsd” was a bit too much for me.
The lower rating opens doors with Playmates Toys for action figure licensing.
As is always the same with this stuff – it’s all about the money.
So they will be Lego terminators? Actually, I wouldnt worry about this Mo, Batman Begins was rated PG-13, a lot of really great movies are, doesnt necessarily have to be rated R for it to rock….

Cap’n, I know it will be fine, but it still makes me laugh. I just think these movies have been better with that R-rating, it just makes them seem more hard core.
But whatever, I’ll still see them
