Based on the bestselling book by Dan Brown, Angels & Demons is the prequel to the very successful, but critically underwhelming, The Da Vinci Code, from 2006. Ron Howard is back directing Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon. He’s joined in the cast by Ewan McGregor and Ayelet Zurer.
TheBadandUgly.com and Trovacinema.it have posted the first images from the set of the film in Rome. There’s not an awful lot going on in the pictures, but from what you can see it looks pretty similar to what is in the book. Click the above links to view the pictures.
I just finished reading the novel the film is based on. Although there does seem to be more action in this story than there was The Da Vinci Code, I found myself rather disappointed in the whole thing. I found too much of the book to be predictable and I thought the characters often did things that were unrealistic or just stupid. I also had a hard time imagining Tom Hanks portraying the character as described in the book. I can only assume they will be changing him for the film.
If you aren’t aware of the story of Angels & Demons… In the novel, Langdon’s character is summoned to a Swiss research facility to analyze a cryptic symbol seared int the chest of a murdered physicist. What he discovers is unimaginable: a deadly vendetta against the Catholic Church by a centuries-old underground organization – the Illuminati. Desperate to save the Vatican from a powerful time bomb, Langdon joins forces in Rome with the beautiful and mysterious scientist Vittoria Vetra. Together they embark on a frantic hunt through sealed crypts, dangerous catacombs, deserted cathedrals and the most secretive vault on earth… the long-forgotten Illuminati lair.
Angels & Demons is set for release on May 15, 2009.
Read the Da Vinci Code but skipped the movie. I haven’t read this book. Is it any good? How does it compare to Code?

I thought The Da Vinci Code was better written overall. I’d wait for the movie of Angels & Demons – it’ll probably be more interesting than the book.
That’s a shame. Books are typically better than movies. To hear that the movie might be better does not give me much confidence – lol

How would this movie be better than the book? The first one sure as hell wasn’t. It took a good story and made it plodding and boring. To be fair, it is hard to portray people thinking and puzzling things out, of course.
Well, I think my point was that the book was so disappointing that the movie was bound to be better.
Given the typical trend of books being better than the movies, and particularly with the general disappointment with the DVC movie adaptation, that just seems ridiculously optimistic of you.

I can’t wait for this movie. I really liked the book. I didn’t really like the Da Vinci Code movie though… I’m hoping this one will be better =/ The Da Vinci Code movie was kinda boring… The book was a lot better.
