Okay, this is the official post with the new commenting system from Disqus enabled. We told you guys that we were going to test Disqus out this coming week, and it’s time to get the trial run started!
If you want to know more about it, read our post and go sign-up if you want, but otherwise go comment a few times below and tell us what you think!
Just a note: Older posts will still use the older commenting system, so we apologize for that. If we decide to stick with Disqus, we’ll switch it on for all of them.
Comment, comment, comment…
Here's another comment. It really does just look like it's part of the site. Much better integration than I'd expected, based on how ID looked.
Yeah, ID was a bit more intrusive looking…this isn't too bad. And I love the threaded commenting style.
Also great that no one really has to mess with their avatars
Cool man.
Are you going to swap out the 'Recent Comments' on the site with a Disqus widget?
Looks like I will need to mess with my avatar – weird that it is not working.
Yeah, that's the next step…they have some nice widgets to use, and I think I'll set up an entire page dedicated to recent comments, which might be nice. I've always wanted a place to list like the last 50 comments, and Wordpress didn't make that easy to do AT ALL.
By the way, I love the fact that we all have no lives and are here commenting within seconds of me posting the blog
Saturday night, 9:12…and I'm ready for bed
Here is the Comments page…kind of cool using their 3-tabbed widget…you can see top commenters, popular and recent.

So psyched about this!
Heh, I love it!
Bueller…
Dude, seriously. No one has ever had as much problems with avatars as you have.
Is it just me or did the whole page just reload when I posted a comment? I'm not sure that's supposed to happen.
It happens anytime I comment here, or on Disqus even.
Yeah – I'm trying to be as annoying as I can with this issue.
So did you sign up with Disqus and upload an avatar there to get it to work? or something else?
I signed up with Disqus, but I did not upload an avatar since I thought it was supposed to just grab the one I have at Gravatar. Is that not correct?
What is strange is that I see my Ape avatar in my profile within the Disqus site, but it's not showing up here…
Also – it does not appear to be counting these as posts in the comments section (running total).
Well, I see your avatar here, might take you a second.
Also, it's counting your comments, but it seems like it takes 10 minutes or so to update the Recent Comments widget, which you referred to.
I already posted a thread on their forums asking about this.
Interesting – apparently I have become part of the 10-second-fast-food
American crowd and did not even realize it. I'll try to be more patient.
Looks like you get some odd wrapping behavior when the comments nest down too far.
Yeah, it really does look like that. Might have to limit the nesting levels. Thanks.
That's weird. I was thinking it was Ajax or something. Maybe I just didn't notice. It's a lot more obvious here, I guess because it takes longer to load the page.
No, I did the last comment on the Disqus page for this article and it didn't reload the whole page.
Well that is weird…oh well, it's the same as the old way I guess
Maybe when we redo the site design we could do two columns and have a wider article and commenting area? Just a thought.
Okay, I reduced nesting down to like 6 levels, to prevent the weird word wrapping thing.
Yeah, definitely could do something like that…although I do like three columns. We could always shrink things up a bit, create like 20 more pixels wide or something.
The only other weird issue is the way things are sorting…kind of confusing.
Sorting correctly now…strange.
Well, you and I can definitely talk about this some more since we already have some ideas for the new site design, but it might be nice if people wanted to chime in with their opinions.
I did it! Whoo hoo for me!
Woo!
Good job. I knew you could do it.
This is so cool! I'm replying to the email to post my response!
Life is good
There's a couple of options in the “Configure” section of the Disqus dashboard to control comment sorting – Oldest, Newest, “Hot” and Best.
I'm old fashioned so I'm using Oldest for my blogs, but I love that there's more options than that.
(Just a random passerby who is new to Disqus, too.
)
Thanks Mythor…I'm using Oldest too, but sometimes it just doesn't sort that way.
Thanks for stopping by, don't be a stranger!
I am testing this… I hope my pic shows up.
I see you.
Okay, here's something I like less about Disqus.
Unless there's a way to change my notification options, I only get emails for replies to my comments, not all comments on a post. Anyone know how to make that happen?
Hmm actually I noticed that too. Let's request for that option
Sorry I missed this Richard…did you check your notification settings? You only have one thing there for notifications to a comment you made?
I see others there, but I think it's because I'm a moderator of Pop Critics and A Mike Life.
I think that's it. If you're a moderator you get the extra options. I only see:
Enable email notifications for comments…
- That are in response to me
- From “Coyote Squirrel's Random Musings” (coyotesqrl.disqus.com)
Well it might be a good idea to post that idea on the Requests forum…seems like a good one.
So this is the answer of something different I see in this blogs. Seems it has point system…What for is that? Anyway, I like this new system because I can see people historical comments by pointing my cursor on their picts. Nice improvement.
Liv, the points are just to give people credit for cool comments, or negative points for sucky comments
It's all for fun really…
You can register if you want, there is a lot of fun stuff on your dashboard with Disqus.
Glad you like it…I'm totally loving it myself
I see…So, if now it shows that my points means somebody love my comments right ; ) ? … I'll check the register step. Thanks for your info Mike…
Shouldn't be too hard to register Liv…let me know what problems you are having and I'll try to see what I can do.
LOL – I was away for so long with work and travel that I just went through this tonight. Someone already signed up as BIM so I used another alias and then selected BIM as the name to appear next to my comments. Seems pretty cool to me.
How the heck could someone else choose BIM???
