Let’s start with some housekeeping before we get to the actual results of which guy and girl left the show. First of all, the opening dance was crazy cool. Wade Robson never has disappointed me as a choreographer. Although, I was a little bummed he did not do his normal new age peace bow when they flashed the camera on him. Darn! But it was fun to see all the contestants together and of course Nigel being kidnapped by them. He is one wacky old man, isn’t he?! Here’s a clip in case you missed it:
I also enjoyed the first guest performers of the night, their popping and locking was pretty slick but oh. my. gosh. The PussyCat Dolls were a traveshamockery. I never thought I would say I actually like The Spice Girls better than something… I mean, if Nigel said at the beginning of the show that people might have been offended in the first hip hop routine when Rayven pulled down Jamie pants, then I cannot imagine what those same people think about the hoochified outfits the PCD had on. The singing (if you can even call it that) was beyond awful and annoying (Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha) and the dancing was ridiculous. Ugh. I’m kinda embarrassed for them.
Moving on, we find out the bottom 3 are: Rayven Armijo and Jamie Bayard, who performed a hip hop routine by Napoleon and Tabitha; Kourtni Lind and Matt Dorame, who performed a jazz routine by Mandy Moore; and Jessica King and Will Wingfield, who performed a tango by Hunter Johnson. I wasn’t too surprised with any of the choices, were you? But I was surprised that Susie Garcia and Marquis Cunningham were safe. I thought for sure their pick of the smooth waltz was a death sentence but I was very wrong!
Then, the dancers in the bottom couples each performed their solos or “danced for their lives” as the show calls it. Kourtni was good, Rayven was kinda weird for me and Jessica was just okay. I didn’t really feel like the girls put a ton of passion or desperation into their solos. I know from previous seasons, the judges really look for who is showing them they want to stay there and are willing to fight for it. In the guys group, Matt was so-so, Jamie was awkward and sloppy and Will was wonderful. I really felt like Will was the only one who really put his heart and soul into his performance and showed he belonged on the show. After all was said and done, Rayven Armijo and Jamie Bayard were the two dancers cut by the judges.
So what did everyone think? Were you okay with the choices? Did you notice all the technical difficulties during the show or was it just me? And please tell me none of you are PussyCat Dolls fans…
So I Think I Can Try To Watch This Show…
Yeah, I'll dvr it for next week and see – I'm still a bit skeptical, but the clips you posted for this week were pretty cool.
I've converted you! YESSS!
Good thing I didn't post a clip of the PCD performance or you might have vomited and hated me forever. BTW- one of the lyrics to their song was ” When I grow up, I want to have groupies.” Adrian and I laughed so hard after that. We had to google it b/c at first I didn't hear the word “groupies.” I thought they said boobies. i don't know which is worse really..
As Quentin Tarantino once said, “I'm not a frog and you're not a bunny, so let's not jump ahead of ourselves…”
I'll have to get a couple of shows into it before I would consider myself a convert! lol – But I'll at least give it a shot. Now, isn't Nigel one of the creators or executive producers for American Idol?
So Nicky, I haven't watched last night's show, but I will over the weekend. My question though (being a recent convert to the SYTYCD dance-mosphere), do they have to send home dancers from the same pairing… or could they have sent Jessica and Matt packing? Inquiring minds want to know…
it can be any of the bottom 6 individuals. it doesn't have to be from the same couple. what i am wondering is if they will keep the same partners next week or switch. last season they switched and the one before that they stayed the same. i like when they change b/c then it makes it more fair. some people are better “partner” dancers than others.
yep, Nigel is also a producer of Idol.
Boobies is definitely better
agreed
I thought it was something where they kept the pairings the same (unless elimination split up some couples) and then a few times in the season they'll re-assign the partners. I can't remember though.
I just love how we have the bottom groups, but then the judges determine after they solo who will go home. In other words, no Sanjayas allowed
Or Elaine Benes….

Yeah, at this point I'm kinda wishing American Idol would take a similar approach. I think the only reason it wouldn't work is because the judges on SYTYCD are much better at actually judging the contestants than the Idol judges are.
DVR is set and ready to record. Should prove interesting.
