A brief post here to tell you guys about this new superhero show debuting tonight on ABF Family called The Middleman.
It’s been getting some good reviews, and IO9 calls it the most anticipated superhero show since Heroes. Of course, I’m not sure much else in the same genre has come out since then, but still.
Here’s how IO9 describes it:
Instead, it’s all about a straight-edge crime-fighter who drinks milk and battles outlandish foes including Chinese Terracotta warriors and Mexican luchadores. And his sidekick Wendy, who’s an art student and office temp who becomes his equal in the saving-the-world biz.
It’s on ABC Family, so I’m not sure how great it’s going to be, but the trailer is below to give you a taste and I’m recording it tonight just to check it out.
The show is actually adapted from a comic book series of the same name, which you can read more about over on Wikipedia.
It's gotten some pretty good reviews as light, summer fun. Plus, Javier Grillo-Marxuach, the creator and showrunner, has a great background. Not only did he create the comic, but he's written and produced on Lost and Jake 2.0.
Looks kind of like the Tick in terms of comedy. Man I wish they hadn't canceled that show.
Spoon!
lol
I don't know about this one. Haven't heard much on it. Not sure it looks as cool as they're trying to say it does.
It had it's moments. There were definitely some pretty funny lines in it. I'll give it a couple of more viewings to allow it to settle in. I'm still on the fence, but I didn't hate it.
Good to know, wish I could have seen it…I'm out of town right now, I miss my DVR
Oh yeah, also my wife
I thought it was pretty good. The girl's really good, the Middleman was okay. He's gotta do more cardio if he wants to be able to say some of those lines without running out of breath.
The way I figure it, any show where the *female* lead name checks Gorilla Grodd and Mice Templar and then mocks Robin, the Boy Hostage is a show built for me.
Plus, she's like super-cute.
And, hyper-intelligent evil Gorilla. In the *premiere*!
So tell me…since I haven't seen it yet…does it feel like an ABC Family show, or could it be on Fox or Sci Fi or what?
Feels more like ABC Family, but a bit edgier and much funnier.
The comparison to The Tick that Ape made is pretty close. It's like a live-action, indie comic book.
Hmm I should have watched this. Gorilla Grodd hmm, my avatar didn't change
And that's later in the show. Earlier, she threatened to leave when he asked “Barry Allen or Wally West?” The girl has her opinions.
I enjoyed the show a lot, it was quirky but didn't try too hard. The characters were very well cast and left a lot of room for growth and potential. Probably the best asset of the show are the villains who seem to get crazier and crazier. I think the next episode is the one with the Mexican Wrestler villains, which should be interesting. This show has got me hooked, great job Javier!
