I’m stepping a bit on Jason’s toes with this one. I know how much he *looooves* Spike Lee. But I’m going to call dibs on it because I have a personal connection.
Variety is reporting that Spike Lee has acquired the rights to “Time Traveler: A Scientist’s Personal Mission to Make Time Travel a Reality” by Ronald Mallett, PhD. Lee used his own money and has set the project up at his production company.
Back – way back – in the day I was a physics major at the University of Connecticut. I was a terrible physics major. But I had the proverbial promise and spark that allegedly can be focused with discipline and training, so my adviser/favorite professor spent a lot of time trying to get me to actually work. We discussed where my interests lie – field theory and General Relativity, despite the insane vector calculus – and he introduced me to UConn’s resident GR expert: Ronald Mallett. We talked a bit and I was deeply impressed by him…but I’m a slacker and in the end I took the easy way out.
Anyway, I’ve casually kept up with his work over the years and have read some of his work, though not his memoir. I really *really* want him to build his damn time machine to see if it works. He is absolutely one of the world’s top men on the topic of time travel.
I’ll be picking up a copy of his memoir and kicking myself that Spike Lee inspired me to “do the right thing” and read it. From what I do know about Professor Mallett’s life, it’ll be an excellent story.
should be interesting to see what develops
