Variety has reported that Universal Pictures has asked “Proof” playwright David Auburn to write a script based on his pitch for a time-travel thriller that will be called The Archive.
Auburn adapted his 2001 play into the screen version of Proof and also scripted The Lake House for Warner Brothers. Auburn made his feature directing debut on The Girl in the Park, which the Weinstein Co. recently acquired.
James Mangold, who directed 3:10 to Yuma and Walk the Line, will be the director on The Archive. Not much is known about the project at this time, but it’s one I want to keep my eyes on. I’m always interested in time-travel thrillers (are there any other kind of time-travel movies really?). Mangold did a fantastic job in 3:10 to Yuma so I’d very much like to see what he’d do with this genre (although he sort of tackled time-travel in Kate and Leopold).
I’ll keep you informed as I learn more.
3:10 was an awesome movie. I agree with you Jason – this is definitely one to keep our eyes on. I remember being fascinated with this concept ever since I read A Wrinkle In Time when I was a kid.
Kate & Leopold… wow, I love cheesy girl movies, and even I know that that movie sucked. Hopefully this is much better.
Well, he's done better, of course. I had forgotten that he did Cop Land. I thought that was pretty good when it came out.
Yeah, Cop Land was actually quite a good film.
that was agreat movie. i have seen it twice. i always fanatsised of travelling through time. when i read h g wells classic i was even more excited. and after seeing the film. oh it was just awsome.
