We haven’t covered a lot of videogame news in the past here at Pop Critics. There’s always so much other stuff going on in entertainment that I guess we don’t always get around to the world of gaming. That’s not to say that some of it isn’t interesting, though.
I’ve been a big fan of the “Call Of Duty” games since they first came out. Activision has had a huge hit on their hands with the franchise which has now seen four games released under the title. A fifth game, “Call Of Duty: World At War” is on its way. It’ll be arriving this fall for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and PC. It’ll be using the COD:4 game engine which most fans consider to be the best of the bunch.
With E3 coming up pretty soon the video game companies are starting to gear up their advertising so we finally have a trailer of the game. Check it out.
Leave your packs and bring extra ammo, Activision, Inc. and Treyarch, announced today that they will be taking Call of Duty players deep into the South Pacific and European theaters this fall for Call of Duty: World at War, a gritty fight that will pit players against enemies that know no surrender and show no mercy. Utilizing the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare engine, Call of Duty: World at War throws out the rulebook of war to transform WWII combat through a new enemy, new tactics and an uncensored experience of the climatic battles that gripped a generation. As U.S. Marines and Russian soldiers, players will employ new features like cooperative gameplay, and weapons such as the flamethrower in the most chaotic and cinematically intense experience to date.
“With Call of Duty: World at War, we’re re-defining what it means to play a WWII game,” said Mark Lamia, Studio Head for Treyarch. “We’re excited to give players a host of new enemies that employ entirely new tactics, as well as new, groundbreaking tools – like co-op and the flamethrower – to succeed in the epic fight.”
Call of Duty: World at War introduces co-operative play, bringing fresh meaning to the “No One Fights Alone” mantra with up to four-players online for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, or two-player local split-screen on consoles. Nintendo Wii will also support a unique co-op mode for two players. For the first time ever players will experience harrowing single-player missions together for greater camaraderie and tactical execution. The co-op campaign allows players to rank up and unlock perks in competitive multiplayer by completing challenges and earning experience points, adding continuous re-playability and team-based gameplay. Whether playing competitively or cooperatively – if players are online with Call of Duty: World at War – they will always gain experience points. Based on a player’s experience rank and rank of the player’s friends, Call of Duty: World at War will scale dynamically to provide a deeper level of challenge.
Call of Duty: World at War is in development for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION3 computer entertainment system, Nintendo Wii and Games for Windows. The title is scheduled for release this fall and has not yet been rated by the ESRB.
I played one of the Call Of Duty games at a friends house a couple of times – pretty cool game.
Way super hi5 and Capn salute to Jason… great post, and thanks for the article on a video game, its a really nice inclusion of everything entertainment and pop culture, since last year was the first year the video game industry made more money than movies did, its that big of an industry. With that said I'm a HUGE video game and could talk hours about them (right behind all my Superhero luv), the video above does indeed look pretty, but it wont sell well, why? … Because WWII games, no matter how pretty they are visually, have been done to death (so to speak). This is why COD IV was huge, it not only brought its own magnificent new streamlined beautiful engine, but the setting was set in modern day and gamers sucked up all the moogly googly of modern day war tools. COD IV is pretty awesome if you havent tried and very well done. Other than graphics, I dont see what they are trying to cover in WWII that hasnt already been done by previous Call of Duty games or its EA (Electronic Arts) competition highly acclaimed Medal of Honor series….among many other that got into the market. Wow, cool looking game, violent…but awesome graphics
Violent is playing COD IV playing a gunner on a Hercules C-130 and 'bringing the rain' so to speak on all of the baddies… (remind me to show you next time you are over red rover)
I know it’s late but I’m considering buying this game as it’ll be going cheap with Call of Duty 6 for the PS3 coming out soon.

A Call of Duty made by Trayarc, what could go wrong. I’m not a big fan of shooters to begin with, although I have player a few. I propably won’t be picking this one up; I mean I didn’t even pick up Modern Warfare. Anyways, nice post.
