We’ve been keeping you up to date on the prequel movie for “24” that is set to premiere on Fox this Fall because it is supposed to lead in to the seventh season of the show that starts next January. Well, Robert Carlyle, who has a major role in the film recently spoke with Premiere and gave us some new details.
Carlyle revealed a little more about his role in the prequel:
My character’s called Carl Benton who is Jack Bauer’s best buddy and he hasn’t seen him for 10 years or something. Jack’s on his travels and he comes to see Carl and hang out with him and potentially change his life. Maybe…
I think we all know that means he’ll end up turning against Jack somehow. They all do.
I have been wondering how they would do the movie since the series itself is famous for it’s “real-time” format where each one hour episode is one hour in the day. Well, Carlyle confirmed that the two hour prequel will take place in real time and that the movie will lead directly into the series.
This two hours is two hours in real time and there’ll then be 22 episodes. I don’t know how they connect it to the first of those 22 episodes but it’s literally the third hour…
So, wait a second. There’s only 22 episodes?
If you’re a fan of the show at all you know that there are always exactly 24 episodes to coincide with the 24 hours in a day. Fox has been leading us to believe that the prequel will be an additional two hour film that will lead us into the 24 HOUR SEASON. Guess that’s wrong. It looks like the prequel is actually just the first two episodes of the seventh season more or less. Then, when the season comes around we’ll only get 22 episodes instead of the 24 we’d normally get.
That’s really disappointing.
What do you think? Are they ripping us off or is this a good way to tide us over while we wait for the new season to finally arrive in January?
Always good to have any 22 news!!! But yeah its a rip for sure, we should easily have 24 shows and a two hour movie too boot, crimany they had a whole season off and couldnt even pull off a 2 hour movie out of it (its really just another 2 episodes, how disappointing for fans). And who knows whatll even happen with another strike pending…

Wow, that does suck…and I don't get it. I thought they had already filmed most of 24 for this coming season, but the writer's strike prevented them from finishing up.
I guess this doesn't make sense to me. Dang, they are just stealing two episodes from the back end and putting them on the front to get fans back into the show, yet screw us on the other side.

I don't know… I think sometimes, by the end of the season, you are ready for Jack's day to finally be over. If they tried to stretch in two more hours… we could be dying for Jack to go ahead and save the day. Each season, 24 really becomes a marathon. Plus this way, you get the season premiere a couple of months early.
I guess I was kind of hoping they'd do the movie like a normal story and not stick to the 24 hour format…maybe make it two days or two weeks or something. That could have given us a lot more information and story which would have been great leading into the season.
They are giving us the first two episodes early and calling it a “movie.” That's all they're doing. …Punks… The first couple hours of the day he'll be sleeping.
Jack Bauer never sleeps on days he has things to do…pretty much every day…
Too bad he can't get an iPhone…
Bauer doesn't need an iPhone. He has telepathic powers. Plus, on good days he gets pretty good TV reception.
