It’s being reported that the threesome of Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, and Oliver Platt are in discussions to join John Cusack and Chiwetel Ejiofor in Roland Emmerich’s apocalyptic thriller 2012.
The Columbia project centers on the heroic struggle of the survivors of a global cataclysm. /Film is saying that John Cusack will play an academic researcher who opens a portal into a parallel universe and makes contact with his double in order to prevent an apocalypse predicted by the ancient Mayans.
Glover is in talks to play the president, with Newton in discussions to play his daughter. Platt is in negotiations to play the president’s chief of staff.
The studio is planning a July 10, 2009, release, with filming set to begin in July of this year barring an actor’s strike.
Another apocalyptic themed movie? Aren’t these starting to wear a little thin now or is it just me?

I’m not anti-apocalypse – I’m just saying I wouldn’t mind if they took a break from it for awhile and give us something a little fresher than somebody having to save everybody else from the end of the world. Geez, isn’t that what Jack Bauer is for? Let the man do his job!
