Sports isn’t a normal topic around here, but since we reported Brett Favre’s retirement back in March, it seems only fitting that we also report his potential un-retirement.
Chris Mortensen from ESPN just posted an article in which he states that sources confirm Favre’s desire to play again. Favre has even supposedly talked directly to Mike McCarthy about returning to training camp this fall.
His family is apparently “tugging” at him to play and he has an “itch” for it once more.
I love Brett Favre. He’s one of my all-time favorite sports figures ever. But I think it was time for him to go. He had one last great season which almost turned amazing, but fell two wins short. A good time to head on out to the pasture of retired superstars.
Should he come back? Are there any sports fans out there who care either way? Do you just laugh at the fact that everyone pretty much thought this would happen and now here we are?
I actually figured he was really done, so this sort of surprises me.
I think he should return so he can have a farewell tour and it would effectively kick Ted Thompson in the nuts, also good.
There's no question he can still play, but really, it's probably time for him to go. Plus, I'm a fan of once you retire, stay retired!
I'm sorry, but he deserves more than to be a walking cliche. He should stay retired.

Now they are saying the Packers don't want him back…so he wants to be released.

Thats dumb,,, that they dont want him back… seriously, he about took them to the magic land last year, he puts butts in the seats,,, hell man like the man above me said COME TO THE CARDINALS… but, hes always been a Packer, would be wierd to see him come to AZ for a yr only

Huge Packers and Brett Favre fan and I think he should stay retired for the following reasons:
1. He said he was retired, he should not go back on his decision
2. While I still believe he has at least one more solid year left in him, I don't think it's worth it
3. He probably hasn't been training and working out and at his age, if he hasn't been, he will be in no shape to start
4. He has nothing left to prove
While I'm not at all surprised that he has that extremely strong pull to want to come back, he has to know that it is not the right decision. But, after all, who can really blame him? He spent 17 years in the pros, as well as playing college, high school, and youth football. He has basically spent his entire life around or involved in the game of football. I don't think it is fair for people to criticize him for having that desire to come back because he is quitting, cold turkey, something that he has known intimately his entire life.
I honestly don't even get why it's news or what the fuss is over. It seems perfectly normal that he would have this desire and even if it was acted upon (i.e. he was allowed to go back to the Packers – which is doubtful, or he was traded – even more doubtful, does that really matter? And if he fell flat on his face (which is more likely by going to a new team) – who cares? He is still going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer.
Personally, I would hate to seem him come back, but I did not read anything in the article that said that he was, so I'm not too worried about it. He has an “itch” to play again – good for him. I have a desire to do a lot of things, but it doesn't mean that I do them and they are definitely not news worthy. What next, Favre has a desire to go fishing and ESPN decides to report on it? It's the silliness that is sensationalistic news.
Ape is the biggest Brett Farve and Packers fan I know, so I think I'll agree with his opinion on this.

I heard he's slightly embarrassed to want to come back because of all the tears he shed at the press conference.
I really think these guys need to stick to their decisions.
I agree – if he wasn't prepared emotionally or intellectually at the time to make a clear decision, he should have waited. But then, if he waits, he gets raked over the coals by the media and press and public opinion because he is dragging the situation out. Either way, it's not really a win-win situation for him
Perhaps he should have called Michael Scott in order to facilitate a win-win-win situation.
Super summary, but I say let the Dood play… if George Foreman can make a comeback, why not ole BF?!
I truly believe he made the correct decision to walk away at the right time. All this is going to do is make for too much controversy and negativity and Farve has always been a stand up guy. That would go a long way to diminishing that I think.
I would agree I would hate for him to take any flack being the standup class act he is…
